A series of four referendums on casinos and senators was held in Guam on 5 November 1996. [1] A reduction of the number of senators from 21 to 15 passed, [2] but proposed term limits for senators failed. [3] Voters approved a measure limiting the budget for parliamentary business to 2.5% of the national budget, [4] and rejected a proposal to permit casinos to open on the island. [5]

The 2006 New Jersey state government shutdown was the first shutdown in the history of the U.S. state of New Jersey. The shutdown occurred after the New Jersey Legislature and Governor Jon Corzine failed to agree on a state budget by the constitutional deadline. Furthermore, Corzine and the Legislature clashed on the issue of raising the state sales tax to help balance budget. Exercising his constitutional powers as governor, Corzine ordered the shutdown as a means of pressuring the Legislature to pass a budget. The shutdown began at midnight on July 1, 2006, when Corzine called for an orderly shutdown of non-essential government services, which was followed by a second round of shutdowns three days later on July 4.

Lourdes Aflague "Lou" Leon Guerrero is a Guamanian politician who has served as the 9th governor of Guam since 2019. She was president and CEO of the Bank of Guam from 2007 to 2017, having previously served as a senator of the Guam Legislature from 1995 to 1999 and again from 2001 to 2007. She is a member of the Democratic Party.

There, he represented the conservative and right-wing populist party Forum for Democracy until he stepped out of the party the following month amidst an internal crisis. He later joined the splinter party JA21.
