The men's 1500 metre freestyle competition at the 1997 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships took place on August 13 at the NISHI Civic Pool. [1] The last champion was Kieren Perkins of Australia. [2]

The seventh edition of the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships, a long course (50 m) event, was held in Fukuoka, Japan, from August 10–13, 1997.

Kieren John Perkins, OAM is an Australian former competition swimmer, four-time Olympic medalist and former world record-holder in three events. One of the world's best-ever long-distance swimmers, he won two Olympic gold medals in 1992 and 1996 in the 1500-metre freestyle, and a silver medal in 2000.

The Pan Pacific Swimming Championships is a long course swimming event first held in 1985. The meet was initially staged biennially, to allow for an international championship-level meet in the non-Olympic and non-World Championships years.
