The 1999 Nova Supersports Cup was an association football friendly tournament competition hosted by Greek premium sports network Nova Sports in 1999, held in Athens. [1]

Contents

The tournament occurred from 31 July to 1 August 1999 with the participation of English Premier League club Leicester City, Hertha Berlin from the Bundesliga, Iraklis from the Alpha Ethniki and AEK Athens from the Alpha Ethniki, which eventually won the tournament. [2] [3] [4]

All the games were played at the Nikos Goumas Stadium a 27,729-seat multi-use venue, home ground of hosts AEK Athens. The ground was demolished in June 2003.

AEK is a Greek professional football club based in Nea Filadelfeia, a suburban town in the Athens urban area, Greece.

Dimitrios "Mimis" Papaioannou was a Greek professional footballer, who played as a forward, mostly for AEK Athens and a later manager. With an all-seater capacity of 32,500, it is the second largest football stadium overall in Greece. It is located in Nea Filadelfeia, a northwestern suburb of Athens, Greece. The new arena was built on the site of the former Nikos Goumas Stadium stadium. The construction of the arena was completed in October 2022. Agia Sophia Stadium is the newest stadium built in Greece.
