The 2000 O'Byrne Cup was a Gaelic football competition played by the county teams of Leinster GAA.

Contents

The tournament was a straight knockout, with 12 teams.

Longford were the winners, defeating Westmeath in the final in Cusack Park, Mullingar. [1] [2] In the final, the Westmeath manager, Brendan Lowry, intruded onto the pitch and clashed with a Longford player and the referee; he received a six-month suspension. [3] [4] The suspension was later lifted. [5]

The 2010 O'Byrne Cup was a Gaelic football competition played by the teams of Leinster GAA. The competition differs from the Leinster Senior Football Championship as it also features further education colleges and the winning team does not progress to another tournament at All-Ireland level. Last year's winners of the O'Byrne Cup were Louth. The O'Byrne Cup was due to begin on 6 January 2010; however, due to Arctic conditions in the Leinster region of Ireland, the Leinster council decided to postpone all games until 16 January.

Brendan Lowry is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for his local club Ferbane and at senior level for the Offaly county team from 1981 until 1992. Lowry scored 0–3 to help his team to victory in the 1982 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final, the most recent occasion that Offaly won the Sam Maguire Cup. His brothers Mick and Seán also played in the 1982 All-Ireland SFC winning side.

Patrick Collins is an Irish former Gaelic football referee and Gaelic games administrator. Born in Athboy, County Meath, Collins refereed the All-Ireland SFC finals of 1976, 1981, 1984 and 1989.
