The America East Conference is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with NCAA Division I whose members are located in the Northeastern United States.
Jerold Taylor "Jay" Wright Jr. is an American former college basketball coach. He served as the head coach of Villanova University from 2001 until 2022. Wright led the Villanova Wildcats to six Big East Conference championships and 16 NCAA tournament appearances in 21 seasons as head coach. Under Wright, Villanova reached four Final Fours and won two national championships in 2016 and 2018.
The East Coast Conference was an college athletic conference at the Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). It was founded as the university division of the Middle Atlantic Conferences (MAC) in 1958. The MAC consisted of over 30 teams at that time, making it impossible to organize full league schedules in sports like football, basketball, and baseball. In 1958, the larger schools created their own mini conference, consisting of 11 members.
The 2000 America East men's basketball tournament was hosted by the Delaware Blue Hens at Bob Carpenter Center. The final was held at Hofstra Arena on the campus of Hofstra University. Hofstra gained its first America East Conference Championships and an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament with its win over Delaware. Hofstra was given the 14th seed in the East Regional of the NCAA Tournament and lost in the first round to Oklahoma State 86–66. Delaware gained a bid to the NIT and lost in the first round to Villanova 72–63.
The 1999 America East men's basketball tournament was hosted by the Delaware Blue Hens at Bob Carpenter Center. The final was also held at Bob Carpenter Center. Delaware gained its second consecutive America East Conference Championships and an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament with its win over Drexel. Delaware was given the 13th seed in the East Regional of the NCAA Tournament and lost in the first round to Tennessee 62–52. Hofstra University gained a bid to the NIT and lost in the first round to Rutgers 58–45.
The Hofstra Pride are composed of 17 teams representing Hofstra University in intercollegiate athletics, including men and women’s basketball, cross-country running, golf, lacrosse, soccer, tennis and track and field. Men’s sports include baseball and wrestling. Women’s sports include volleyball, field hockey, and softball. The Pride compete in the NCAA Division I and have been members of the Colonial Athletic Association in most sports since 2001. They were previously members of the America East Conference.

The Drexel Dragons men's lacrosse team represents Drexel University in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I men's lacrosse. Drexel currently competes as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and plays its home games at Vidas Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Drexel made its first NCAA tournament appearance in 2014, and a second NCAA tournament appearance in 2021.

Conference play began in late December and concluded in late February.
The 2000–01 Hofstra Pride men's basketball team represented Hofstra University from Hempstead, New York in the 2000–01 Season. Led by head coach Jay Wright, Hofstra finished with a record of 26–5, the best in the AEC, and won the AEC tournament. As a result of winning the tournament, Hofstra was invited to the NCAA tournament. Although Hofstra fell in the first round of the tournament, coach Wright departed in the off-season to become the new head coach of Villanova, who he would coach to National Championships in 2016 and 2018. That season marked their final season in the America East Conference. In summer 2001, They moved to the Colonial Athletic Association.

The 2020–21 Hofstra Pride men's basketball team represented Hofstra University during the 2020–21 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Pride were coached by Mike Farrelly, who served as acting head coach while Joe Mihalich was out on a temporary medical leave of absence. They played their home games at Mack Sports Complex in Hempstead, New York as members of the Colonial Athletic Association. In a season limited due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Pride finished the season 13–10, 8–6 in CAA play to finish in fourth place. They defeated Delaware in the quarterfinals of the CAA tournament before losing to Elon in the semifinals.
