The 2001 Targa Tasmania was the tenth running of the Tarmac Rally event and saw the event extended to a six-day format to mark the decade milestone. It was held between 18 April 2001 and 24 April 2001 on 54 competitive closed road stages in the state of Tasmania, Australia. [1]

Targa Tasmania is a tarmac-based rally event held on the island state of Tasmania, Australia, annually since 1992. The event takes its name from the Targa Florio, a former motoring event held on the island of Sicily. The competition concept is drawn directly from the best features of the Mille Miglia, the Coupe des Alpes and the Tour de Corse.

The Targa Florio was an open road endurance automobile race held in the mountains of Sicily near the island's capital of Palermo. Founded in 1906, it was the oldest sports car racing event, part of the World Sportscar Championship between 1955 and 1973. Country Club Tasmania is a casino in Launceston, Tasmania, owned by Federal Hotels. It is Tasmania's second casino. It is also used for a variety of local events and is home to an 18-hole golf course. Targa Tasmania uses the casino as a starting point for the race.
The Lucalia Clubman is a Clubman-style sportscar designed by Nick Lockyer in 1966. It was based upon the Lotus Super Seven (1957) design. A total of ten Lucalia Clubman's were produced in the 1970s to early 1980s and were manufactured in Tasmania, Australia. The company was sold in the late 80s initially to a partnership of 4 which over the first year became 2, Lawrence Barton-Johnson and brother Rodney Barton-Johnson who had the wealth of building and construction knowledge as well as the workshop space needed to continue building the cars. As time passed differences in opinion led to the company being completely bought out and owned by Rodney and a 2nd car was completed which has great success in local high calibre racing events such as Targa Tasmania.

Targa Adelaide is a tarmac-based rally event held on the state of South Australia, Australia, annually. The inaugural classic only event was 2011, but included modern vehicles from 2012. The event has an intermediate-length course design by Stuart Benson of approximately 260 competitive kilometres covered in five days over twenty nine closed road competitive rally stages.
Australian Targa Championship is a tarmac-based rally Championship held in Australia, annually. The inaugural event was 2012. The Championship uses closed public roads in a variety of different sports cars in competitive events over three states.
The Denny Hulme Memorial Trophy is a motorsport honour awarded to the competitor who exhibits tenacity to overcome adversity while completing the Targa Tasmania. The award was first made in 1993.
