The 2016 FIVB Volleyball World League was the 27th edition of the annual men's international volleyball tournament which was played by a record of 36 teams from 16 June to 17 July 2016. The Group 1 final round was held in Kraków, Poland. After being runners-up on five occasions, Serbia finally claimed their first World League after prevailing over Brazil in straight sets. The defending champions France claimed their first ever bronze medal at the World League after a fast victory in straight sets against Italy. Marko Ivović was elected the most valuable player.
The NORCECA qualification for the 2018 FIVB Men's Volleyball World Championship saw member nations compete for five places at the finals in Italy and Bulgaria. The top three teams from the 2017 Men's NORCECA Volleyball Championship, plus two teams from the final four qualified for the 2018 World Championship. Therefore, the first two rounds of the 2018 World Championship qualification also acted as qualifiers for the 2017 NORCECA Championship.

The 2019 Asian Men's Club Volleyball Championship was the tenth edition of the Asian Men's Club Volleyball Championship, an annual international volleyball club tournament organised by the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) with Chinese Taipei Volleyball Association (CTVA). The tournament was held in Taipei, Taiwan, from 18 to 26 April 2019. The champions qualified for the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Men's Club World Championship.
