Fukagawa held a mayoral election on October 1, 2006. [1] [2] Junkichi Kawano was elected but later arrested for bid-rigging forcing a by-election in January (see 2007 Fukagawa mayoral by-election).

The town of Fukagawa, Japan held a mayoral by-election on January 21, 2007. The former mayor, Junkichi Kawano, was arrested on bid-rigging charges. The by-election comes just three months after the ordinary election on October 1, 2006.

The Fukagawa-Rumoi Expressway is a partially tolled expressway in Sorachi Subprefecture and Rumoi Subprefecture, Hokkaido, Japan. The expressway connects Rumoi on the Sea of Japan coast of Hokkaido to the Dō-Ō Expressway in the central part of the island. It is owned and operated by partially by the East Nippon Expressway Company and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT). Incumbent mayor Hirofumi Yoshimura decided to not seek a second term as mayor of Osaka in order to run as Governor of Osaka. The result of the election was a victory for Governor of Osaka Prefecture Ichiro Matsui. He received 58% of the vote.
