The 2007 Irish Professional Championship was a professional invitational snooker tournament which took place in September 2007. The tournament was held at the Red Cow Exhibition Centre in Dublin, and featured sixteen exclusively Irish and Northern Irish players.

Contents

The last-16 and quarter-final matches were played over the best of nine frames, the semi-finals best of eleven and the final best of seventeen.

Two-time world champion and six-time Irish Professional champion Alex Higgins, now aged 58, entered the tournament for the third year in succession; his first-round loss to Fergal O'Brien would be the final competitive match he played before his death in 2010. [2]

Ken Doherty won the event, beating O'Brien 9–2 in the final. [3]

Alex Higgins Northern Irish snooker player (1949–2010)

Alexander Gordon Higgins was a Northern Irish professional snooker player who is remembered as one of the most iconic figures in the game. Nicknamed Hurricane Higgins because of his fast play, he was World Champion in 1972 and 1982, and runner-up in 1976 and 1980.He became the first qualifier to win the world title in 1972 and only two players have achieved the feat since Terry Griffiths in 1979 and Shaun Murphy in 2005. He won the UK Championship in 1983 and the Masters in 1978 and 1981, making him one of eleven players to have completed snooker's Triple Crown. He was also World Doubles champion with Jimmy White in 1984, and won the World Cup three times with the All-Ireland team.

Gerard Eamonn Greene is a Northern Irish professional snooker player. He represents Northern Ireland in international events, as his parents are from Belfast.

The 2005 Masters was the 2005 edition of the non-ranking Masters professional snooker tournament. It was held from 13 to 20 February 2005 at the Wembley Conference Centre, London. The tournament was the 31st staging of the competition and was the sixth of nine World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) main tour events in the 2004/2005 season. The tournament was broadcast in the United Kingdom on the BBC and by Eurosport in Europe.

The 2008 World Snooker Championship was a professional snooker tournament that took place between 19 April and 5 May 2008 at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, England. It was the 33rd consecutive year that the World Snooker Championship was held at the Crucible Theatre, and the seventh and final ranking event of the 2007–08 snooker season. The tournament was organised by World Snooker, and sponsored by betting company 888.com. The tournament featured a total prize fund of £1,050,000 with £250,000 being awarded to the winner.

The 2001 Nations Cup was a professional non-ranking snooker tournament that took place at The Hexagon, in Reading, Berkshire, England, from 13 to 21 January 2001. It was a World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association team competition held as part of the 2000–01 snooker season and the third and final edition of the Nations Cup. The competition was contested by eight nations of three players each with one of them qualifying via a play-off match. It was sponsored by smokeless coal manufacturer Coalite.
