The 2007 South American Rugby Championship was the 29th edition of the now multi-divisional rugby competition involving the top rugby nations from South America.

Contents

Division A consisted of three teams and was played on a home and away basis. Two points are awarded for a win and one for a draw.

The competition wasn't completed, because of the difficulties of finding a date for the match between Argentina and Uruguay, as it was the first time they participated in the final phase of the Rugby World Cup.

The Rugby Championship international rugby union competition

The Rugby Championship is an international rugby union competition contested annually by Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Prior to the 2012 tournament, when Argentina joined, it was known as the Tri Nations. These are the four highest ranked national teams in the Southern Hemisphere, the Six Nations is a similar tournament in the Northern Hemisphere. Building on various Southern Hemisphere competitions dating back to the South Pacific Championship in 1986, with teams from a number of southern nations, the Super Rugby started as the Super 12 in the 1996 season with 12 teams from 3 nations: Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. The Super 12 was established by SANZAAR after the sport became professional in 1995. The Jaguares is an Argentinian professional rugby union team based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. They were founded in 2015 and are the first Argentinian team to play in SANZAAR's Super Rugby competition, participating from the 2016 Super Rugby season onwards. The tournament began in 1972 with Argentina as the host, which saw the locals win the title. It was not until 2008 when the first official Division B tournament was held, which was eventually won by Brazil. In 2014, an addition competition was added, CONSUR Cup, which is contested by Argentina and the top team of the A Division the same year.
