Viktor Stepanovich Grebennikov was a self-proclaimed Russian scientist, biologist, entomologist and paranormal researcher best known for his claim to have invented a levitation platform which operated by attaching dead insect body parts to the underside. Grebennikov wrote detailed accounts of his experiences flying over the Russian countryside using his levitation device. These flying experiences as well as his reported observations of other paranormal phenomena, usually involving insect nests or parts, appear in his self-published book My World.

"No Coward Plays Hockey" could be called the anthem of ice hockey in the Soviet Union and Russia. The song was composed in 1968 by Aleksandra Pakhmutova (music), Sergei Grebennikov and Nikolai Dobronravov. During this period of Soviet history, ice hockey was very popular in the Soviet Union, which is why it was not a big surprise when such a song appeared. Since then, it has been performed by many musicians - and some hockey arenas in Russia use its theme to open the game.

It was the reigning European Champion in 2015 and is ranked 3rd in the FIVB world ranking. France have been competing in the World League ever since the inaugural edition in 1990 and continuously since 1999. In 2006 they finished second to Brazil but had their share of disappointment in subsequent seasons. In 2009 they narrowly missed making the Final Six, falling at the last hurdle to Slovenia. Vladimir Alekseevich Grebennikov was an ice hockey player who played for the Soviet national team. He won a bronze medal at the 1960 Winter Olympics as an Ice Hockey Men. In 1950-53 he played with Spartak Moskva, then in 1953-54 played with Dvorets Kultury imeny Karl Marksa Elektrostal, and in 1954-64 was with Krylya Sovetov Moskva. Vladimir Grebennikov ended his career with Spartak Ryazan in 1964-66.
