The 2008-09 Irish Ice Hockey League season was the second season of the Irish Ice Hockey League, the top level of ice hockey in Ireland. Six teams participated in the league, and the Dundalk Bulls won the championship.
The Irish Ice Hockey League was a top level ice hockey league in Ireland from 2007 until 2010. The official league was founded in 2007, yet amateur leagues have existed since the early 1980s. The league collapsed due to funding issues as they were unable to maintain the major arenas they played in. Many of the teams either collapsed or moved to the recreational league maintained by the IIHA.

The league was cancelled mid-season, and the Dundalk Bulls were named champions.
The Dundalk Bulls were an ice hockey team from Dundalk, Ireland that competed in the Irish Ice Hockey League and the Celtic Cup League, with games being played in Ireland and Scotland. Home games were played at the 1,200-seat capacity Dundalk Ice Dome, which used to be home to Team Ireland and hosted the Division 3 Ice Hockey World Championships in April 2007. The club has not fielded a team since the closure of the Dundalk Ice Dome in May 2010 and appears no longer to exist.

Dundalk Football Club is an Irish professional association football club based in Dundalk, County Louth. The club currently plays in the League of Ireland Premier Division. Founded in 1903, it is the second most successful team, in terms of trophies won, in the history of the League of Ireland. The traditional colours of the club are white jerseys with black shorts. Because of the white jerseys, the team has been nicknamed The Lilywhites. Home games are played in Oriel Park. A local rivalry is shared with Drogheda United, their Louth neighbours, who entered the League in 1963 as Drogheda FC and later became Drogheda United in 1975.

The Irish national ice hockey team is the national ice hockey team of the Republic of Ireland run by the Irish Ice Hockey Association and a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) since 26 September 1996. Ireland gained promotion to Division II of the IIHF World Championships in 2007, but after a poor performance in their Division II debut, the team was then relegated back to Division III. For 2007 and 2008, the venue was used as a secondary venue by the Belfast Giants. The Ice Dome was closed in early May 2010 with plans to open under new management by Planet Ice; however, this has yet to happen and the rink remained closed.
