The Belfast City Bruins are an ice hockey team in the Irish Ice Hockey League. They were coached by Gordon Ferguson.
The Belfast Bruins were established in February 2007 to compete in the Irish Ice Hockey League, representing Belfast. They are distinct from the Belfast Giants, who play in the British Elite League. Notably, players like Johnson, Stewart, Martin, and Hamill transferred from the Giants to the Bruins when the league was formed. The Bruins' logo is inspired by the NHL's Boston Bruins, though the team does not have any developmental ties to the Boston Bruins farm system
The Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL), sometimes referred to internationally as the British Elite League, is an ice hockey league in the United Kingdom. Formed in 2003 following the demise of the Ice Hockey Superleague, it is the highest level of ice hockey competition in the United Kingdom.

The Chilliwack Bruins were a Major Junior ice hockey team in the Western Hockey League (WHL) based in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada. The 2006–07 season marked the Bruins' inaugural season in the WHL. The team played at Prospera Centre, which was expanded to 5,386 seats for the arrival of the team. The Bruins were sold after the 2010–11 season and subsequently relocated to Victoria to become the Victoria Royals.
Michael Raymond Bales is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender. He played in the National Hockey League over four seasons from 1992 to 1997 with the Boston Bruins and the Ottawa Senators, accumulating a record of 2–15–1 and a goals against average of 4.13 in 23 games. He currently serves as goaltending coach for the NHL's Buffalo Sabres.

The Irish Ice Hockey League was the highest league tier of ice hockey in Ireland, founded in 2007. The official league was founded in 2007, yet amateur leagues have existed since the early 1980s. The league collapsed in 2010 due to funding issues as they were unable to maintain the major arenas they played in. The league is now run by the IIHA with all games played at Dundonald International Ice Bowl due to closure of other rinks.

An enforcer throughout his career, he won two Stanley Cups with the Anaheim Ducks (2007) and the Boston Bruins (2011). After retiring, he won another Stanley Cup as an executive with the Florida Panthers (2024).
Todd Kelman is a Canadian retired ice hockey defenceman who is currently the Managing Director of the Cardiff Devils of the Elite Ice Hockey League. He was an original member of the first Belfast Giants squad that played in the old Ice Hockey Superleague in the 2000–01 season. He won the Superleague title twice, once with the Giants in 2001–02 and previously with the Bracknell Bees two seasons earlier in 1999–00. He also won the Superleague Playoff Championship and the Elite League with the Giants in 2002–03 and 2005–06 respectively.

Milan Lucic is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who is currently an unrestricted free agent. He most recently played for the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL). He played major junior hockey with the Vancouver Giants in the Western Hockey League (WHL) for three seasons and captured the Memorial Cup while being named tournament MVP in 2007. He was selected 50th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft and made the Bruins’ roster as a 19-year-old in 2007–08. Three years later, he won a Stanley Cup with the Bruins. He spent the first eight seasons of his NHL career with Boston before being traded to the Los Angeles Kings in June 2015. After a single season in Los Angeles, Lucic signed as a free agent with the Edmonton Oilers in July 2016, playing three seasons for the Oilers before being traded to the Calgary Flames in July 2019.

Belfast has several notable sports teams playing a diverse variety of sports including football, rugby, traditional Irish Gaelic games, and North American sports such as American football and ice hockey (at the SSE Arena where the multiple time Elite Ice Hockey League champion Belfast Giants are based. The Belfast Marathon is run annually on May Day, and attracted 14,300 participants in 2007. Cycling, triathlon and athletics are also popular as both participation and spectator sports, with the first two stages of the 2014 Giro d'Italia starting from Belfast City Centre, and the annual high profile Belfast International Cross Country event being held in the grounds of Stormont Castle every year until 2009. The Stormont Estate is also one of the four home grounds for the Ireland cricket team, alongside Bready, Malahide and Clontarf, and also hosts the Northern Cricket Union provincial teams.

Craig Alvin Cunningham is a Canadian former professional ice hockey centre who played with the Boston Bruins and Arizona Coyotes in the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected by the Boston Bruins, 97th overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, before being called up to the Bruins in December 2013.

Patrick Wellington Brown is an American professional ice hockey forward and captain for the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League (AHL) while under contract to the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL). He previously played for the Carolina Hurricanes, Vegas Golden Knights, Philadelphia Flyers and Ottawa Senators. He won the Calder Cup with Carolina's AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers in 2019.
