The 2009 Women's European Volleyball League was the first edition of the annual women's volleyball tournament, played by eight European countries from May 22 to June 28, 2009. The final Four was held in Kayseri, Turkey from July 11 to July 12.

Neslihan Demir is a retired Turkish volleyball star. She is one of the most successful athletes of Turkey and has been among FIVB Heroes. She represented her country as the flag bearer at the 2012 Summer Olympics and the official advertisement face of Turkey for the 2020 Summer Olympics candidateship along with basketballer Hedo Türkoğlu. She was a left-handed opposite hitter and won numerous individual awards in the international tournaments. She studied at Gazi University.

The 2010 FIVB Women's World Championship was the sixteenth edition of the competition. Like the previous tournament, the 2010 edition also was held from 29 October to 14 November 2010 in Japan, though the range of venues and locations was modified slightly. Twenty-four teams participated in the tournament.

The 2007 Montreux Volley Masters was held in Montreux, Switzerland between 5 June and 10 June 2007. In the tournament participated 8 teams. The team of China won the Tournament, Cuba placed 2nd and the Netherlands 3rd.

The 2009 FIVB Women's Junior Volleyball World Championship was held in Tijuana and Mexicali, Mexico from July 16 to 25, 2009. 16 teams participated in the tournament.

Turkey competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. This nation has competed at every Summer Olympic Games in the modern era since its debut in 1908. Turkey, however, did not attend the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp, the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles at the period of worldwide Great Depression, and the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow because of its support for the United States boycott. The Turkish Olympic Committee sent the nation's largest delegation to the Games. A total of 114 athletes, 48 men and 66 women, competed in 16 sports. For the first time in its Olympic history, Turkey was represented by more female than male athletes. Women's basketball and women's volleyball were the only team-based sports in which Turkey had its representation in these Olympic games. There was only a single competitor in archery, badminton, and artistic gymnastics.

The 2010 Women's European Volleyball League was the second edition of the annual women's volleyball tournament, played by eight European countries from June 5 to July 18, 2010. The final Four were held in Ankara, Turkey, on July 24 and 25.
