2010 Dunedin local elections

The Dunedin local elections, 2010 were part of the 2010 New Zealand local elections, to elect members to sub-national councils and boards. The Dunedin elections are used to elect the Mayor of Dunedin and to elect councilors to the Dunedin City Council.

Contents

As per the Local Electoral Act 2001, all the elections occurred on Saturday 9 October 2010. [1] Voting was carried out by postal ballot, using the single transferable vote system.

Mayor

The candidates for mayor included Peter Chin, the incumbent who was running for a third consecutive term. His contenders included Dave Cull and Lee Vandervis.

Councillors

In 2010 the ward system was changed with there now being just three wards in Dunedin. The Central Ward which would elect eleven councilors, Mosgiel Taieri Ward which would elect two and the Waikouaiti Coast-Chalmers Ward which would elect one. [2]

Central ward

All eleven incumbent councillors sought re-election, while 28 other people sought election to the council.

Eight of the eleven councillors returned to the council as councillors, while councillor Dave Cull returned as mayor. Three new councillors were elected: Richard Thomson, Lee Vandervis, and Jinty MacTavish.

The 2022 Dunedin mayoral election between 16 September and 8 October 2022 was part of the 2022 New Zealand local elections. Voters preferred former city councillor Jules Radich to the incumbent Aaron Hawkins.

The 2022 Wellington Region local elections were held on 8 October 2022 as part of the wider 2022 New Zealand local elections to elect members to sub-national councils and boards. These elections covered one regional council, eight territorial authorities, and various community boards and licensing trusts.

Jules Vincent Radich is a New Zealand politician who has served as the 59th mayor of Dunedin, New Zealand since 2022. He has also served as councillor for the Dunedin City Council since 2019. Radich also serves as deputy Chair of Infrastructure and sits as a member on the Saddle Hill Community Board.

The 2022 Dunedin local elections were held via postal voting between September and October 2022 as part of the wider 2022 New Zealand local elections. Elections in Dunedin covered one territorial authority, the Dunedin City Council, and six community boards.
