The 2010 Manny V. Pangilinan Invitational Championships also known as the 2010 Smart Philippines Invitational Challenge, was a five-team basketball tournament hosted from June 24-27, 2010. [1] The tournament, named after Filipino businessman and sportsman Manny V. Pangilinan, took place at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium. [2] The Philippine national team became champions beating Jordan in the finals. [3]

Results

The five teams participated in a round-robin elimination round with the top two team playing for the championships at the finals scheduled on June 27. The two teams from the PBA, Barangay Ginebra Kings and the Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters played no bearing games. Ginebra played two games and Talk 'N Text played just one. All the other teams played three games each in the first round. [4]

The import-laden Commissioner's Cup returned as the second tournament, while the Governors' Cup also returned, serving as the third conference which also served as an import-laden tournament.

The tournament was an import-laden format, which requires an import or a pure-foreign player for each team and with a height limit of 6-foot-4. Defending 2002 champions Barako Bull Energy Boosters took a leave of absence during this conference. Replacing them was the Smart Gilas Philippine national team.

Jordan Taylor Clarkson is a Filipino-American professional basketball player for the Utah Jazz of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for two seasons with Tulsa before transferring to Missouri, where he earned second-team all-conference honors in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). After forgoing his senior year in college to enter the 2014 NBA draft, Clarkson was selected by the Washington Wizards in the second round with the 46th overall pick and was immediately traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. The Manny V. Pangilinan Cup, also known as the MVP Cup, is an international basketball tournament in the Philippines organized by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas. An earlier version of the cup, dubbed the MVP Cup Invitational Championships, was conceived in 2010 to prepare the Philippine national basketball team for FIBA-related competitions by having them compete against other national teams or top-level professional clubs.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2015 MVP Cup</span>

The 2015 Manny V. Pangilinan Cup, also known as the Master Game Face MVP Cup 2015 due to sponsorship reasons, was an invitational basketball tournament which was contested by four teams from September 11–13, 2015 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. While a similarly named tournament was held in 2010, the 2010 MVP Invitational Champions' Cup, the 2015 MVP Cup is considered the inaugural edition of the MVP Cup and is planned to be held annually.
