The 2010 Santa Catarina gubernatorial election was held on October 3, as part of the general elections in Brazil. Raimundo Colombo of the Democrats was elected as governor. One of the losing candidates, Ideli Salvatti, was chosen by president Dilma Rousseff to assume the Ministry of Fishing and Aquaculture.

Chapecó is a municipality in the state of Santa Catarina, in the Southern Region of Brazil. Being a major industrial, financial and educational center, it is a major producer of industrialized food products. Considered a medium city, with a population estimated at 224,013 inhabitants, it is among the four most important cities in the state. It belongs to the Meso-region of Western Santa Catarina and to the Microregion of Chapecó.

Trithrinax brasiliensis is a species of flowering plant in the family Arecaceae. It is known as carandá, burití or leque. It is considered a rare and endemic species in southern Brazil. It occurs in Argentina, southern Brazil, and eastern Bolivia, where it is popularly known to Spanish speakers as saó or saocito and to speakers of Chiquitano as baixhíxh. Nowadays it is considered a threatened species belonging to the category "In Danger" in the List of Threatened species of Rio Grande do Sul state, southern Brazil.

The 2008 Santa Catarina floods were floods in Santa Catarina, Brazil in November 2008. They occurred after a period of heavy rainfall, most significantly from 20-23 of November. The state had suffered constant rainfalls for over two months on the coast, which turned the soil wet enough to cause a landslide during the storm that hit the state in late November. It affected around 60 towns and over 1.5 million people in the state of Santa Catarina in Brazil. At least 128 people are confirmed to have been killed with over 78,700 being forced to evacuate their homes. A further 150,000 have been left without electricity, while water rationing is being carried out in at least one town due to purification problems. Santa Catarina state Governor Luiz Henrique da Silveira had earlier suggested that the final death toll was likely to be over 50, a figure that has proved optimistic. Several towns in the region have become cut off due to floodwater and landslide debris and on November 23 the Mayor of Blumenau, João Paulo Kleinübing, declared a state of emergency in the city. Water levels in the Vale do Itajaí have risen to eleven metres above normal.

General elections were held in Brazil on 6 October 2002, with a second round of the presidential election on 27 October. The elections were held in the midst of an economic crisis that began in the second term of the incumbent president, Fernando Henrique Cardoso of the centre-right Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB). Due to constitutional term limits, Cardoso was ineligible to run for a third consecutive term.

The state elections Roraima in 2010 happened on October 3 as part of general elections that year in Brazil. At this time, elections were held in all 26 Brazilian states and the Federal District. Citizens eligible to vote elected the president, the governor and two senators per state, plus state and federal deputies. The Brazilian municipal elections of 2012 took place on October 7 and on October 28. Over 138 million voters chose mayors, deputy mayors and city councillors for the 5,568 municipalities of Brazil. These were the first elections in which the recently registered parties Partido Pátria Livre (PPL) and Partido Social Democrático (PSD) participated; they were both recognized by the Superior Electoral Court in 2011. Political parties whose candidates wished to run for the 2012 elections had to be registered at the TSE for at least one year before the election date, while candidates also had to be affiliated to a party for the same period of time. Conventions for the selection of candidates within the parties occurred between 10 and 30 June, while the registry of candidates and alliances with the Regional Electoral Courts took place until July 5. Electoral campaign was authorized from the moment a candidacy had been registered. The free electoral program – two daily slots on free-to-air TV and radio for political advertising paid by the Electoral Justice fund – ran weekdays from 21 August until 4 October. According to the current Brazilian electoral law, the two-round system – should the leading candidate receive less than 50% +1 of the votes – is only available for cities with more than 200,000 voters. This includes all state capitals, with the exception of Boa Vista, Roraima and Palmas, Tocantins, plus 59 other municipalities. The free electoral program for the second round ran from 13 October until 26 October.

Sancler Frantz Konzen is a Brazilian model. A beauty pageant titleholder, she won Miss Brazil World 2013 and represented Brazil at Miss World 2013 where she reached the top six. In 2023, she was appointed to represent Brazil at Miss Supranational 2023 where she was second runner-up.

Each state, the Federal District and Fernando de Noronha competed for the title. Jane Borges of Goiânia, Goiás crowned Regiane Andrade of Santa Catarina at the end of the contest. Andrade represented Brazil at Miss World 2007. The contest was held at the Barueri Municipal Theatre in Barueri, São Paulo, Brazil.

Carlos Eduardo Nunes Alves is a Brazilian lawyer and politician, who was the mayor of the city of Natal from 2002 to 2009, and again from 2013 to 2018. During his second term, he won the election in 2012, and began his mandate on 1 January 2013. He was reelected in the first round in 2016 with 63.42% of the vote, totaling 225,741 votes. On 6 April 2018, he announced his resignation to run to be governor of the state of Rio Grande do Norte that year.
