The women's scratch at the 2011 Dutch National Track Championships in Apeldoorn took place at Omnisport Apeldoorn on December 30, 2011. 18 athletes participated in the contest, of whom 14 finished. [1]

A scratch race is a track cycling race in which all riders start together and the objective is simply to be first over the finish line after a certain number of laps.

The 2011 Dutch National Track Championships were the Dutch national Championship for track cycling. They took place in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands from December 27 to December 30, 2011.

Apeldoorn City and Municipality in Gelderland, Netherlands

Apeldoorn is a municipality and city in the province of Gelderland in the centre of the Netherlands. It is a regional centre. The municipality of Apeldoorn, including villages like Beekbergen, Loenen, Ugchelen and Hoenderloo, had a population of 160,852 in 2017. The western half of the municipality lies on the Veluwe ridge, the eastern half lies in the IJssel valley. John Berends of the CDA is the mayor of Apeldoorn.

Competition format

Because of the number of entries, there were no qualification rounds for this discipline. Consequently, the event was run direct to the final. The competition consisted on 40 laps, making a total of 10 km. [2]

Race

With a few laps to go Ellen van Dijk raced clear of the bunch. Within the last lap Van Dijk was pulled back by Nathalie van Gogh and so the race ended in a bunch sprint. Kirsten Wild won the sprint, ahead of Nathalie van Gogh and Roxane Knetemann.

Ellen van Dijk Dutch professional road and track racing cyclist

Eleonora Maria "Ellen" van Dijk is a Dutch professional road racing cyclist riding for Team Sunweb. Besides road cycling she was also a track cyclist until 2012. Van Dijk is known as a time trial specialist and is five times world champion. She won her first world title on the track in the scratch race in 2008. She became Road World Champion in 2012, 2013 and 2016 with her respective trade teams in the team time trial and in 2013 also in the individual time trial. In 2015, she won the time trial at the first European Games and the silver medal in the team time trial at the world championships.

Kirsten Wild Dutch racing cyclist

Kirsten Wild is a Dutch professional racing cyclist riding for WNT–Rotor Pro Cycling. Wild competed in two track cycling events at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Roxane Knetemann Dutch racing cyclist

Roxane Knetemann is a Dutch professional racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Women's Team Parkhotel Valkenburg. She is the daughter of former cyclist Gerrie Knetemann. In September 2016 she announced that she would join FDJ Nouvelle-Aquitaine Futuroscope for the 2017 season after five years riding for Rabo–Liv.

2009 UEC European Track Championships – Womens under-23 scratch

The U23 Women's scratch was one of the 8 women's under-23 events at the 2009 European Track Championships, held in Minsk, Belarus. It took place on 19 July 2009. 22 participated in the race.

The 2011 season was the tenth for the HTC–Highroad Women cycling team, which began as the T-Mobile team in 2003. The main new riders for the team were the Americans Amber Neben and Amanda Miller and the German time trial champion Charlotte Becker. Sadly, in January, Carla Swart died whilst training after being hit by a truck. After winning a stage, Ellen van Dijk won the Ladies Tour of Qatar which was the 400th victory for the team since 2008. Ina Teutenberg won the fifth round in the Women's World Cup and the team won the seventh round, the Open de Suède Vårgårda team time trial. The team finished second overall in the World Cup. Judith Arndt finished fourth in the individual standings and Teutenberg fifth. At the end of the season Arndt took the third place in the UCI World Ranking, Teutenberg fourth and the team ended in second place in the team classification.

The 2014 women's road cycling season was the fifth for the Boels Dolmans Cycling Team, which began as the Dolmans Landscaping Team in 2010. The main new rider for the team was the Time Trial World Champion Ellen van Dijk, after have ridden 5 years for Specialized–lululemon. After winning the Omloop van het Hageland in early March, Lizzie Armitstead won also the first World Cup race, the Ronde van Drenthe. She would finish later three times in second place in the later World Cup races and keeping the lead in the overall World Cup classification. In begin April, after a solo of 30 km Ellen van Dijk won the Tour of Flanders World Cup race.

The 2008 women's road cycling season was the ninth and last season for the Vrienden van het Platteland cycling team, which began as Ondernemers van Nature in 2000.

2018 UCI Track Cycling World Championships

The 2018 UCI Track Cycling World Championships were the World Championships for track cycling in 2018. They took place in the Netherlands at the Omnisport Apeldoorn from 28 February to 4 March 2018.
