2011 Kohistan floods

The 2011 Kohistan floods are a series of flash floods that took place throughout the month of August 2011 in the Kohistan District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in northwest Pakistan. The floods, caused by overnight heavy rains, have left at least 63 people dead and washed away dozens of houses, settlements, livestock and vegetation. [1]

The floods were the most destructive since the deadly 2010 Pakistan floods which rampaged the whole country.[ citation needed ]

Gawri (ګاوری), also known as Kalami (کالامي), or Bashkarik, is an Indo-Aryan language spoken in Swat Kohistan region in the upper Swat District and in the upper Panjkora river valley of Upper Dir District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.

Kohistan district is the southernmost district in Faryab Province. Its population is 53,100 (2010). The district center is Qal'a 35.3811°N 64.7561°E, 1909 m altitude.

Union council Garial has six villages, i.e Nakao, mirshahi, mulakhel Gabrial, Shadomkhel Gabrial, Village bagh seri and village council Barigo. Union council Kareen has two villages, i.e village council Kareen and Village council Sergarhi. Union council Jashoi has three villages, i.e Seyal khas Dong, Siyal Dara and Jajshoi. Union council Thoti has four villages, i.e Kafarbanda, Eleel, Serto and Thoti. There are many tourist points in Thoti Union council also.
