The 2012 Copa del Rey de Balonmano was the 37th edition of the Copa del Rey de Balonmano. It took place in the Palacio de los Deportes Infanta Cristina, in Torrevieja, Valencian Community, between 7 & 11 March 2012. It was hosted by Liga ASOBAL, Torrevieja city council, Costa Blanca Tourism & Hotel La Laguna. Torrevieja was the host team. Torrevieja hosted Copa del Rey for second time from 2002.
The qualified teams were the top seven teams on standings at midseason, besides the host team. [1]

The Spanish handball league is divided into divisions. The top teams play in the Liga ASOBAL. In each division, a team plays all other teams twice, once at home and once away.
Liga Asobal is the premier professional handball league in Spain. It was founded in 1958 with the name of División de Honor, changing its name to the current name in 1990. The Liga ASOBAL, which is played under EHF rules, currently consists of 16 teams, including famous ones like FC Barcelona, Ademar León, Bidasoa and Granollers.
División de Plata de Balonmano, is the second level handball league in Spain. It was founded in 1994 and is managed by RFEBM. From 1994 until 2008–09 season, this competition was known as División de Honor B. From 2009–10 season onwards, it's officially known as División de Plata.
The Supercopa ASOBAL or the Supercopa de España de Balonmano was an annual cup competition for Spanish handball teams. It was organised by the Liga ASOBAL. It was first played for in 1985 and was disputed between the Liga ASOBAL champions and the winners of the Copa del Rey de Balonmano. It was played as a single match, at a neutral venue and in different cities every year. In 2022 it was replaced by Supercopa Ibérica.
Rebi Balonmano Cuenca is a team of handball based in Cuenca, Spain. It plays in Liga ASOBAL.
Club Balonmano Torrevieja was a handball club based in Torrevieja, Valencian Community. CB Torrevieja played in the Liga ASOBAL until the 2011/2012 season, after which it disbanded due to financial problems.
División de Honor Femenina de Balonmano or Liga Guerreras Iberdrola after sponsorship of Iberdrola, is the premier women's professional handball league in Spain. It is administered by the Royal Spanish Handball Federation (RFEBM). It was established in 1952, and it is currently contested by twelve teams.
Club Balonmano Neptuno/Atlético Madrid was a Spanish professional handball team based in Madrid, Spain. Part of the Atlético Madrid sports organization. They played two seasons in the Liga ASOBAL and their home court was the Palacio Vistalegre.
The Liga ASOBAL 2011–12 was the 22nd season since its establishment. Barcelona Intersport are the defending champions. The campaign began on Friday, 9 September 2011. The last matchday was played on Saturday, 2 June 2012. The 2015–16 Copa del Rey de Balonmano was the 41st edition of this tournament, organized by Liga ASOBAL. The tournament began on October 3 and 4, 2015, with the matches of the first round.
The 2015 Copa ASOBAL was the 26th edition of the Copa ASOBAL. It took place like the previous year in the Palacio de los Deportes, in León, Castile and León, on 19 and 20 December 2015. The tournament was hosted by ABANCA Ademar León and León city council, being the sixth time León hosted Copa ASOBAL.
