The 2012 Hong Kong Women's Sevens was the 15th edition of the competition, and the second tournament in the IRB Women's Sevens Challenge Cup. [1] [2] The event was held from the 23rd to the 24th of March at Hong Kong, twelve teams competed in the tournament. [1] Spain and Brazil made their Hong Kong debut. [2]

The English women's national rugby sevens team has competed in the Hong Kong Women's Sevens tournaments since 1997. England are also one of six teams announced by the International Rugby Board as "core teams" that will compete in all four rounds of the inaugural IRB Women's Sevens World Series in 2012–13. England won the bronze medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The United States women's national rugby sevens team competes in international rugby sevens competitions. The team finished second at the 2015 USA Women's Sevens, after defeating Russia in the semifinals. They competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

The Netherlands women's national rugby sevens team participated in the IRB Women's Sevens Challenge Cup in Hong Kong losing to Spain in the Plate semi-finals, they finished 8th overall. In October 2012, the Netherlands was announced by the International Rugby Board as one of six "core teams" that will compete in all four rounds of the inaugural IRB Women's Sevens World Series in 2012–13. The team finished seventh in the standings. It was later decided that the quarter-finalists at the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens would make up the eight core teams for the next series later that year.

Royce Chan Leong-sze is a former Hong Kong rugby union player. She has represented Hong Kong internationally in rugby fifteens and sevens. She competed at the 2017 Women's Rugby World Cup in Ireland.

This is the qualifying process for the 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens with the aim of selecting the women's national rugby sevens teams that will compete in the tournament in Cape Town, South Africa. A total of 47 nations took part in the qualifying process.

The 2014 Hong Kong Women's Sevens was the 17th edition of the tournament. The competition was held on 28 March at the Hong Kong Football Club. 12 teams including hosts, Hong Kong, competed at the tournament; with Kenya making their debut as the 37th international team to take part in the event.
