The 2012 Horizon League Men's Basketball Tournament began on February 28 and ended on March 6. [1] The Horizon League Network broadcast the first and second rounds. The semifinals were televised by ESPNU, with the championship game on ESPN. The Detroit Titans won the tournament and an automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA tournament.

Contents

Each first-round game was played on the home court of the higher-seeded team. The second round and semifinals were held at the Athletics-Recreation Center in Valparaiso, Indiana, home to the #1 overall seed Valparaiso. Since Valparaiso advanced to the championship game, the Crusaders also hosted the final.

Seeds

All Horizon League schools play in the tournament. Teams are seeded by 2011–12 Horizon League season record, with a tiebreaker system to seed teams with identical conference records. The top 2 teams receive a bye to the semifinals.

The second round and semifinals were hosted by Valparaiso, because the Crusaders won the regular season conference championship. Since Valparaiso won its semifinal game, it also hosted the championship game. Only eight of the nine teams in the conference played in the Horizon League Tournament, as Milwaukee has been deemed ineligible for postseason play for the 2014–15 season.

The 2015–16 Valparaiso Crusaders men's basketball team represented Valparaiso University during the 2015–16 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Crusaders, led by fifth year head coach Bryce Drew, played their home games at the Athletics–Recreation Center and were members of the Horizon League. They finished the season 30–7, 16–2 in Horizon League play to win the regular season championship. They lost in the semifinals of the Horizon League tournament to Green Bay. As a regular season conference champion who failed to win their conference tournament, received an automatic bid to the National Invitation Tournament. As one of the last four teams left out of the NCAA tournament, they received a #1 seed in the NIT where they defeated Texas Southern, Florida State, Saint Mary's, and BYU to advance to the championship game where they lost to George Washington.

They finished the season 24–9, 14–4 in Horizon League play to finish in a tie for the Horizon League regular season championship. As the No. 2 seed in the Horizon League tournament, they lost to Milwaukee in the quarterfinals. They received an invitation to the National Invitation Tournament where they lost in the first round to Illinois.

The 82nd edition of the tournament began play on March 18, 2021 in sites around the state of Indiana, and concluded with the championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on April 5, with the Baylor Bears defeating the previously undefeated Gonzaga Bulldogs 86–70 to earn the team's first ever title.
