Diriyah, formerly romanized as Dereyeh and Dariyya), is a town in Saudi Arabia located on the north-western outskirts of the Saudi capital, Riyadh. Diriyah was the original home of the Saudi royal family, and served as the capital of the Emirate of Diriyah under the first Saudi dynasty from 1727 to 1818. Today, the town is the seat of the Diriyah Governorate, which also includes the villages of Uyayna, Jubayla, and Al-Ammariyyah, among others, and is part of Ar Riyad Province.
The First Division League, also called the Yelo league for sponsorship reasons, is the second tier of professional football in Saudi Arabia. The First Division League is ranked below the Saudi Professional League and above the Saudi Second Division in the Saudi Arabian football league system. All of the FDL clubs qualify for the King Cup, the annual Saudi Cup competition. Al Khaleej are the most recent champions, winning their second title during the 2021-22 season.
Al-Shabab became the first club to win the championship for three seasons in succession when defeating Al-Hilal in the championship match. Promoted side Al-Najma were relegated alongside Al-Ta'ee.
Al-Shabab won the championship again for the second time and the second time in a row after winning the end of season championship final on penalties against Al-Ettifaq.
In December 1990, the Saudi Federation decided to merge all the football League with the King's Cup in one tournament and the addition of the Golden Box. The Golden Box would be an end of season knockout competition played between the top four teams of the regular league season.

Shaye Al-Nafisah was a Saudi Arabian footballer who played as a forward. He joined Al-Kawkab as a youth in 1977 and represented the first team a year later. He spent his entire career at Al-Kawkab and rejected offers from many top-tier sides such as Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr. Al-Nafisah retired at the age of 28 due to recurring injuries. Al-Nafisah represented the Saudi Arabia national team at the 1984 AFC Asian Cup and scored the first goal in the final.

The 2013–14 Saudi Crown Prince Cup was the 39th season of the Saudi Crown Prince Cup since its establishment in 1957. This season's competition featured a total of 30 teams, 14 teams from the Pro League, and 16 teams from the First Division. For the first time, the Crown Prince Cup tournament was contested by 30 teams, having been expanded from the 16-team format used since 1991. Under the new format, last season's finalists received a bye to the Round of 16 while the remaining 28 teams entered at the preliminary stage.
The 2015 King Cup, or The Custodian of The Two Holy Mosques Cup, was the 40th season of King Cup since its establishment in 1957, and the 8th under the current edition. Al-Shabab was the defending champion but was eliminated by Al Taawon in quarter-finals.

Al-Diriyah Club is a Saudi Arabian football club based in Diriyah. Founded in 1976, the club competes in the MS League, the second tier of Saudi football. Al-Diriyah play their home games at the Prince Turki bin Abdul Aziz Stadium in Riyadh. Al-Diriyah have won the Saudi Second Division once in 2013 and finished as runners-up once in 2020.

The season began on 30 September 2022 and will conclude on 30 April 2023 with the final. The group stage draw was held on 9 June 2022. Fixtures for the 2022–23 season were announced on 25 August 2022.
