The ESPN Events Invitational is an annual college basketball tournament played over Thanksgiving weekend, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday. The inaugural tournament was held November, 23, 24, and 26, 2006. The tournament is played at the State Farm Field House at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in the Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Florida. In the current format, the tournament consists of eight teams from separate conferences. All eight teams are guaranteed three games. Teams who lose in the first round move to the consolation bracket and can finish no better than 5th, while the worst a team can finish that wins in the first round is 4th. The final ranking of the teams is determined by separate games for 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th place. The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference serves as the host for the tournament. The 2020 tournament was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2017–18 Gonzaga Bulldogs men's basketball team represented Gonzaga University in the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team was led by head coach Mark Few, who was in his 19th season as head coach. The team played its home games at McCarthey Athletic Center in Spokane, Washington. This was the Bulldogs 38th season as a member of the West Coast Conference. They finished the season 32–5, 17–1 in WCC play to win the WCC regular season championship. The 2021 field was announced in May, and featured BYU, Hawai’i, Liberty, Northern Iowa, South Florida, Stanford, Vanderbilt and Wyoming.
The 2021–22 San Francisco Dons men's basketball team represented the University of San Francisco during the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Dons were led by third-year head coach Todd Golden, and played their home games at the War Memorial Gymnasium at the Sobrato Center as members of the West Coast Conference.

The conference was founded in 1952 as the California Basketball Association, became the West Coast Athletic Conference in 1956, and dropped the word "Athletic" in 1989.
