The 2016 FAI Cup Final was the final match of the 2016 FAI Cup, the national association football cup of the Republic of Ireland. The match took place on 6 November 2016 at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, and wascontested between Cork City and Dundalk. [1] [2] The match was a repeat of the 2015 FAI Cup Final. Cork City won the game 1-0 after extra time with a late winning goal. [3] [4]

Cork City won the match with a late goal from Maguire in the last minute of extra-time. [5] Maguire received the ball with his back to goals in the penalty box after a throw-in from the right. Shooting low with his left foot, the ball took a slight deflection before rolling into the far left corner of the net. [6] [7]

The match was broadcast live on RTÉ Two and RTÉ Two HD in Ireland, and via the RTÉ Player worldwide with commentary from George Hamilton.[ citation needed ]

The 2005 FAI Cup Final was the final match of the 2005 FAI Cup. The final took place on 4 December 2005 at Lansdowne Road, Dublin in front of a crowd of 24,521 and a television audience which peaked at 285,000. This was the largest attendance at an FAI Cup Final since 1990. The match was originally due to take place at Tolka Park, Dublin however the match was moved to Lansdowne Road in order to accommodate a larger crowd. Drogheda United and Cork City contested the final. Drogheda United were generally seen as underdogs coming into the game but they successfully claimed their first major trophy by winning the match. It was Cork City's first appearance in the final since 1998. Drogheda United last contested the final in 1976. Live coverage of the match was provided on RTÉ Two and RTÉ Radio 1.

The 2015 FAI Cup Final was the final match of the 2015 FAI Cup, the national association football cup of the Republic of Ireland. The match took place on 8 November 2015 at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, and was contested between Cork City and Dundalk. Dundalk were looking to achieve the Double, having already won the league title.

The league began on 4 March 2016 and concluded on 28 October 2016; the relegation play-offs followed on 31 October and 4 November 2016. The match was played between 2015 League of Ireland Premier Division champions Dundalk and 2015 FAI Cup runners-up Cork City on 27 February 2016, at Turners Cross. Cork City won the match 2-0, taking the lead in the 20th minute through Gavan Holohan and doubled the advantage in the second half through Sean Maguire’s header.

The 2016 FAI Senior Challenge Cup, also known as the 2016 FAI Irish Daily Mail Senior Cup for sponsorship reasons, was the 96th season of the national Football competition of the Republic of Ireland. The winners of the competition earned a spot in the First qualifying round of the 2017–18 UEFA Europa League.

The match was played between 2016 League of Ireland Premier Division champions Dundalk and 2016 FAI Cup winners Cork City on 17 February 2017, at Turners Cross. The 2022 FAI Cup Final, known as the 2022 Extra.ie FAI Cup Final for sponsorship reasons, was the final match of the 2022 FAI Cup, the national association football cup of the Republic of Ireland. The match took place on Sunday 13 November at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin, and was contested by Derry City and Shelbourne.
