The 2016 PCBL Chairman's Cup was the second and the last conference of the inaugural season of the Pilipinas Commercial Basketball League and the first and the last offering of PCBL for the year 2016. [1] It was opened on March 6, 2016 at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center in Malolos, Bulacan. The PCBL games will be televised on a delayed basis on AksyonTV.
On May 27, 2016, the 2016 PCBL Chairman's Cup championship was awarded to Jumbo Plastic Linoleum Giants setting the first record for back to back championship wins for the Pilipinas Commercial Basketball League, after beating the heavily star-studded team Mighty Sports 80-68 on Game 3. Jeff Viernes also was named as the Finals MVP averaging 22.7 points per game.
The Chairman's Cup will be the first conference of the PCBL under new commissioner Joel Banal, who replaced Ato Batolato. [2] The PCBL also welcomed two new teams in the fledgling league, the SCTEX Road Warriors to be led by former PBA players Ervin Sotto, Ford Arao and Borgie Hermida, [3] and Mighty Sports, bannered by former UAAP men's basketball MVP Kiefer Ravena and retired PBA player Ty Tang. [4]
The SCTEX, under the ownership of Manila North Tollways Corporation, is also the reigning champion of the men's basketball competition in the 2016 MVP Olympics, after beating Mediaquest team, 90–80 in a one-game finals match on March 4, 2016 at the Meralco gym. [5] PCBL will be the first major league of the Mighty Sports franchise to carry their own brand, after their appearances in small-time basketball tournaments such as Republica Cup held in Malolos, Bulacan where they won a championship. [6]
Returning teams including Jumbo Plastic Linoleum Giants, the 2015 PCBL Founder's Cup champion., Sta. Lucia, Euro-Med, Foton and Supremo Lex-Our Lady of Fatima University. The team will also use imports for the conference. Notable imports which will be seen in the Champion's Cup are Bright Akhutie playing for Mighty Sports and Allwell Oraeme playing for Jumbo Plastic. The Sta. Lucia Realtors were a professional basketball team in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) from 1993 to 2010. Prior to joining the PBA, it played in the Philippine Basketball League (PBL) from 1987 to 1992.
Ervin Amedo Sotto is a Filipino former professional basketball player. He was also an assistant coach for the NLEX Road Warriors. He was the seventh overall pick in the 2004 PBA draft by the Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotdogs. He also played for the Shell Turbo Chargers, Barangay Ginebra Kings and the Air21 Express, Alaska Aces before joining NLEX Road Warriors camp. Sotto was one of the most promising big men and was known for his good shooting from outside the arc. He was included in one of the most controversial trades in the PBA involving Rudy Hatfield, Billy Mamaril, Rafi Reavis, and Aries Dimaunahan.
Tyrone Conrad Uy "TY" Tang is a Filipino former professional basketball player and a current head coach. He last played for Mighty Sports of the Pilipinas Commercial Basketball League (PCBL). Tang played for the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in the Philippine Basketball Association before retiring and then coming out of retirement to play in the PCBL. He was the twelfth overall pick in the 2008 PBA Draft by the Welcoat Dragons. He played point guard for the De La Salle Green Archers in college. He helped his team to a championship after top players like Renren Ritualo, Mike Cortez, Mark Cardona and Joseph Yeo graduated.
Joel Banal is a retired Filipino professional basketball player, and former head coach in the Philippine Basketball Association. He is the former commissioner of the now-defunct Pilipinas Commercial Basketball League (PCBL). Banal is the only head coach to win championships in the NCAA, UAAP, PBL, and the PBA.

Claiford A. Arao is a Filipino professional basketball coach and former player. He was the fourteenth overall draft pick by Meralco in the 2010 PBA draft. He played for the Ateneo Blue Eagles during his collegiate career, in which he now serves as an assistant coach.
