The 2016 Southern Football League (SFL) premiership season was an Australian rules football competition staged across Southern Tasmania, Australia, over twenty one (21) roster rounds and six (6) finals series matches between 2 April and 24 September 2016.
The competition's major sponsors for the season were Subway and Telstra.

The Mallee Football Netball League (MFNL) was an Australian rules football and netball competition finishing in 2015 with just five clubs based in the Mallee region of northwestern Victoria, Australia. Brighton Districts and Old Scholars Football Club

The Brighton Districts and Old Scholars (BDOS) is an Australian rules football team based in the southern suburbs of Adelaide which was formed in 1991 as a merger between the former Brighton Football Club and Brighton High Old Scholars Football Club. Also known as the Brighton Bombers, BDOS competed in the South Australian Amateur Football League (SAAFL). In 1994, BDOS joined the Southern Football League in the junior grades, and were followed by the senior teams from the SAAFL in 1997. In 2017, BDOS shifted to the Adelaide Footy League.

Hackham Football Club

The Hackham Football Club is an Australian rules football club first formed in 1976. In 1977, Hackham initially started in the Southern Football League Division 3 competition playing against C-Grade teams of some of the stronger clubs before becoming an inaugural member of the restructured Division 2 competition in 1978. Promotion to Division 1 was achieved in 1984, but its first attempt at the top division did not last long, dropping back down to the second division at the end of the 1986 season. Hackham once again were promoted to Division 1 in 1992 and remained within that division until 2016, dropping to the C-Grade competition from 2017.

The 2016 National Premier Leagues was the fourth season of the Australian National Premier Leagues football competition. The league competition was played amongst eight separate divisions, divided by FFA state and territory member federations. The divisions are ACT, NSW, Northern NSW, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia.

The 2016 Football West season was the third season under the new competition format in Western Australia. VFL Womens

VFL Women's (VFLW) is the major state-level women's Australian rules football league in Victoria. The league initially comprised the six Premier Division clubs and the top four Division 1 clubs from the now-defunct Victorian Women's Football League (VWFL), and has since evolved into what is also the second primary competition for AFL Women's (AFLW) clubs in Victoria. The league runs from May to September, running concurrently with the Victorian Football League (VFL).
