The 2016 Southern Conference women's soccer tournament is the postseason women's soccer tournament for the Southern Conference to be held from October 26 to November 6, 2016. The nine match tournament will be held at campus sites, with the semifinals and final held at Taylor Stadium in Johnson City, Tennessee. The ten team single-elimination tournament will consist of three rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. The Furman Paladins are the defending tournament champions after defeating the Mercer Bears in the championship match. [1]

The 2019 VMI Keydets football team represented the Virginia Military Institute in the 2019 NCAA Division I FCS football season. It was VMI's 129th football season. The Keydets were led by fifth-year head coach Scott Wachenheim. They played their home games at 10,000–seat Alumni Memorial Field at Foster Stadium. They were a member of the Southern Conference (SoCon). They finished the season 5–7, 4–4 in SoCon play to finish in a three-way tie for fourth place. The tournament was held at campus sites, with the higher seed hosting. The seven-team single-elimination tournament consisted of four rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. The Mercer Bears were the defending champions but were unable to defend their crown, as they lost in the final to the UNC Greensboro Spartans, 2–1. This was the fourth Southern Conference tournament title for the UNC Greensboro men's soccer program, and second under coach Chris Rich. UNC Greensboro also has two tournament titles that were later vacated. As tournament champions, UNC Greensboro earned the Southern Conference's automatic berth into the 2022 NCAA Division I men's soccer tournament.
