The 2016 USAFL National Championships were the 20th installment of the premier United States annual Australian rules football club tournament. The tournament as held at the Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, on October 15–16. The tournament saw a total of 41 teams representing 34 USAFL clubs and three from AFL Canada.

Recap

The Austin Crows picked up their second consecutive Men's Division 1 premiership by sweeping the group stage and then defeating the Golden Gate Roos 39-13 in the Grand Final. The Roos' appearance in the Final was their first at the D1 level since 1999. Nolan Cox, brother of Collingwood Football Club player Mason Cox, was named most consistent for the tournament in helping the Crows to their third D1 flag in three years. Austin's 4-0 record completed a perfect 18-0 season, and extended their win streak to 23 games, the second longest in Men's USAFL history. Elsewhere, the Calgary Kangaroos won their second ever Division 2 title, the Portland Steelheads became the first D3 team to win back to back titles, and the Ohio Valley River Rats won their fifth Division 4 premiership. Collingwood Football Club Australian rules football club

The Collingwood Football Club, nicknamed the Magpies or even less formally the Pies, is a professional Australian rules football club playing in the Australian Football League (AFL). Formed in 1892 in the then-working class Melbourne suburb of Collingwood, the club played in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) before joining seven other teams in 1896 to found the breakaway Victorian Football League. Originally based at Victoria Park, Collingwood now plays its home games at the Melbourne Cricket Ground with its training and administrative headquarters located at Olympic Park Oval and the Holden Centre.

Mason Cox American player of Australian rules football

Mason Cox is an American professional Australian rules footballer who plays for the Collingwood Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Playing as a ruckman and key forward, he first played Australian rules football in April 2014 before making his AFL debut just two years later in April 2016. Cox had previously played basketball for Oklahoma State University in the Big 12 Conference. On debut, he became the tallest player in the history of the AFL, overtaking Aaron Sandilands in height.

In Women's Division 1, the Denver Lady Bulldogs saw their six-year streak of National Championships snapped, falling to the San Francisco Iron Maidens. The Maidens, who are the women's arm of the Golden Gate Australian Football League, beat Denver 9-6 in their first game on Sunday afternoon, then defeated the Minnesota Freeze 16-6 to finish the round robin competition at 4-0 to clinch the title. The Division 2 Women's competition, made up of three combined teams, was won by the team with players from the Portland Sockeyes, Seattle Grizzlies, Arizona Hawks, and Tampa Bay ARFC. [2]

Special guests on the weekend were Hawthorn Football Club greats Dermott Brereton and Chris Wittman, who held a coaches clinic on the Friday before the tournament, and also provided broadcast commentary. A record 30 matches were broadcast live via the USAFL's YouTube channel, including all twelve Men's Division 1 group matches, all fifteen Women's Division matches, and the Men's Division 1, 2, and 3 Grand Finals. Hawthorn Football Club Australian rules football club

The Hawthorn Football Club, nicknamed the Hawks, is a professional Australian rules football club in the Australian Football League (AFL). The club, founded in 1902, is the youngest of the Victorian-based teams in the AFL and has won thirteen VFL/AFL premierships. It is renowned as the only club having won premierships in each decade of the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and 2010s. The team play in brown and gold vertically striped guernseys. The club's Latin motto is spectemur agendo, the English translation being "By our deeds let us be known".

Dermott Hugh Brereton is an Australian former professional Australian rules football player in the Australian Football League (AFL), regarded as one of the greatest players of his generation. Of Irish descent, he was known for his aggressive style of play. Brereton kicked 464 goals and played in five premierships for Hawthorn during his 211-game career. He is a former director of the Hawthorn Football Club and is currently an AFL commentator on Foxtel's 24-hour AFL channel Fox Footy, as well as on radio station SEN 1116.

Chris Wittman is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn in the VFL/AFL.

2013 USAFL National Championships

The 2013 USAFL National Championships was the 17th installment of the premier United States annual Australian rules football club tournament. The tournament was held in Austin, Texas from 19–20 October. The National Champions from the men's competition were the Austin Crows and from the women's competition the champions were the Denver Bulldogs.

2014 USAFL National Championships

The 2014 USAFL National Championships was the 18th installment of the premier United States annual Australian rules football club tournament. The tournament was held in Dublin, Ohio from the 11–12 October. The National Champions from the men's competition were the New York Magpies and from the women's competition the champions were the Denver Bulldogs.

Los Angeles Dragons

The Los Angeles Dragons are an Australian rules football team, based in Los Angeles, California. They were founded in 2010 and play in the United States Australian Football League.

2015 USAFL National Championships

The 2015 USAFL National Championships was the 19th instalment of the premier United States annual Australian rules football club tournament. The tournament was held in Austin, Texas, for the third time, from 17 October to 18 October. It was the first edition of the tournament with two women's divisions. The Austin Crows won the Division 1 Men's Title defeating the Orange County Bombers. The Denver Bulldogs won the Division 1 Women's Title finishing first in a four-game round robin.

Ebony Marinoff Australian rules footballer

Ebony Marinoff is an Australian rules footballer playing for the Adelaide Football Club in the AFL Women's (AFLW). Marinoff was named the inaugural AFL Women's Rising Star winner and selected in the inaugural AFL Women's All-Australian team in 2017, and was also a member of the Adelaide team that won the inaugural AFL Women's premiership. Later that year, she also won a VFL Women's (VFLW) premiership with the Darebin Falcons.
