The New Hampshire Wildcats represent the University of New Hampshire in Women's Hockey East Association play during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I women's ice hockey season.

University of New Hampshire public research university in New Hampshire

The University of New Hampshire (UNH) is a public research university in the University System of New Hampshire, in the United States. The university's Durham campus, comprising six colleges, is located in the Seacoast region of the state. A seventh college, the University of New Hampshire at Manchester, occupies the university's campus in Manchester, the state's largest city. The University of New Hampshire School of Law, known as the Franklin Pierce Law Center until 2010, is located in Concord, the state's capital.

The 2017–18 NCAA Division I women's ice hockey season began in September 2017 and ended with the 2018 NCAA Division I women's ice hockey tournament's championship game.

Hockey East college ice hockey conference in New England, USA

The Hockey East Association, also known as Hockey East, is a college ice hockey conference which operates entirely in New England. It participates in the NCAA's Division I as a hockey-only conference.

The annual NCAA Women's Ice Hockey Tournament is a college ice hockey tournament held in the United States by the National Collegiate Athletic Association to determine the top women's team in the NCAA.

ECAC Hockey

ECAC Hockey is one of the six conferences that compete in NCAA Division I ice hockey. The conference used to be affiliated with the Eastern College Athletic Conference, a consortium of over 300 colleges in the eastern United States. This relationship ended in 2004; however, the ECAC abbreviation was retained in the name of the hockey conference. ECAC Hockey is the only ice hockey conference with identical memberships in both its women's and men's divisions.

Whittemore Center

Whittemore Center Arena or Whitt is a multi-purpose arena in Durham, New Hampshire, United States, on the campus of the University of New Hampshire. It was built for $30 million and opened in November 1995. It was dedicated to Frederick B. Whittemore and his family on May 5, 1996. It is adjacent to its predecessor, the Snively Arena, which is still standing and is used as a recreation facility. It is also adjacent to Durham's Amtrak station, and it is across the street from Wildcat Stadium.

New Hampshire Wildcats

The New Hampshire Wildcats, or 'Cats, are the NCAA Division I athletic teams of the University of New Hampshire in Durham, New Hampshire, United States. The wildcat is the school's official mascot, the colors are UNH Blue and white. The University of New Hampshire sponsors teams in seven men's. eleven women's and one coed NCAA sanctioned sports. A full member of the America East Conference, New Hampshire also fields teams in five sports not sponsored by the America East. The men's and women's hockey teams are members of Hockey East, the gymnastics team is a member of the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL), and the ski team is a member of the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA). The football team plays as an associate member of the Colonial Athletic Association in the Football Championship Subdivision, the second tier of Division I formerly known as Division I-AA.

Two popular American sports were invented in New England. Basketball was invented by James Naismith in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1891. Volleyball was invented by William G. Morgan in Holyoke, Massachusetts, in 1895. Also, the first organized ice hockey game in the United States is widely believed to have been played in Concord, New Hampshire in 1883.

College ice hockey

College ice hockey is played in Canada and the United States, though leagues exist outside North America.

Erin Whitten-Hamlen American ice hockey player

Erin Whitten is an American hockey goaltender who has played professionally with various men's teams. She has played with the Dallas Freeze of the CHL, the Toledo Storm of the ECHL, the Utica Blizzard, Muskegon Fury, and the Flint Generals of the Colonial Hockey League. Whitten has also participated in roller hockey with the Pittsburgh Phantoms and the Oakland Skates. Whitten graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1993. After her playing career, she also gained coaching experience with the New Hampshire Wildcats, Boston Blades, and the Merrimack College Warriors.

The head coach was Brian McCloskey. Assisting him were Erin Whitten and Stephanie Jones.

New Hampshire Wildcats womens ice hockey

The New Hampshire Wildcats represent the University of New Hampshire. They have won five ECAC championships between 1986 and 1996. When the Wildcats joined Hockey East, they won four Hockey East titles from 2006 to 2009. The Wildcats have more wins than any other women's ice hockey program at 668 in its first 32 years. The Wildcats went undefeated in their initial 74 games (73-0-1) spanning the 1978 through 1982 seasons. A UNH goaltender has been declared Hockey East Goaltending Champion in the first six years of the league’s existence. From 2007 to 2009, UNH hosted NCAA Tournament Regional home games.


Kacey Bellamy American womens ice hockey player

Kacey Lee Bellamy is an American ice hockey defenceman, an Olympic gold and two-time silver medalist, and seven-time IIHF World Women's Championship winner. She currently plays for the Boston Pride in the National Women's Hockey League and the United States women's national ice hockey team. She won the Isobel Cup with the Pride and is a two-time Clarkson Cup champion with the Boston Blades of the Canadian Women's Hockey League.

The New Hampshire Wildcats men's ice hockey team is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college ice hockey program that represents the University of New Hampshire. The Wildcats are a member of Hockey East. They play at the Whittemore Center Arena in Durham, New Hampshire.

Jennifer Dorothy June Wakefield is a Canadian ice hockey player and a member of the Canada women's national ice hockey team. She was a substitute for the women's team that participated in 2010 Winter Olympics and played on the gold-medal winning team at the 2014 Winter Olympics, and the silver-medal winning team at the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Amanda Kessel is an American professional ice hockey player for the Metropolitan Riveters of the National Women's Hockey League. She has also been a member of the United States women's national ice hockey team. She played four seasons for the Minnesota Golden Gophers women's ice hockey program.

Sam Faber American womens ice hockey player

Samantha "Sam" Faber is an American ice hockey player. Faber competed for the New Hampshire Wildcats women's ice hockey program in Hockey East. During the 2007–08 season, Faber set an NCAA record for most game-winning goals in one season with 13. She is a former member of the United States women's national ice hockey team. She was part of the gold medal winning roster at the 2008 IIHF World Women's Championships.
