The Horizon League is a collegiate athletic conference in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I. Headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, the league's eleven member schools are located in and near the Great Lakes region.
The Cleveland State Vikings women's basketball team represents Cleveland State University in women's basketball. Since 1994, they have been a member of the Horizon League. The Cleveland State women's basketball team was formerly in the North Star Conference (1988–1992) and Mid-Continent Conference (1992–1994). Prior to 1988, the Cleveland State women's basketball team was not affiliated with any conference.
The Wright State Raiders team is the NCAA Division I women's basketball team that represents Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. The school's team currently competes in the Horizon League. The Raiders are currently coached by Kari Hoffman. The Raiders play at the Wright State University Nutter Center in Fairborn, Ohio. The official capacity for basketball games is 10,400.
The 2016 Horizon League women's soccer tournament is the postseason women's soccer tournament for the Horizon League. It was held from October 31 to November 5, 2016. The five match tournament will be held at campus sites, with the semifinals and final held at Engelmann Stadium in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The six team single-elimination tournament will consist of three rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. The Oakland Golden Grizzlies are the defending tournament champions after defeating the Wright State Raiders in the championship match.
The 2016 Horizon League men's soccer tournament was the 29th edition of the tournament. It determined the Horizon League's automatic berth into the 2016 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship. UIC enter the tournament as the defending champions.
The 2017–18 Milwaukee Panthers men's basketball team represented the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Panthers, led by first-year head coach Pat Baldwin, played their home games at the UW–Milwaukee Panther Arena and the Klotsche Center as members of the Horizon League. They finished the season 16–17, 8–10 in Horizon League play to finish in a tie for fifth place. They defeated UIC in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League tournament before losing in the semifinals to Wright State.

The tournament determined the year's Horizon League men's college soccer champion, as well as the conference's automatic berth in the 2017 NCAA Division I men's soccer tournament, which determines the national champion of college soccer for the season.

The Flames, led by fifth-year head coach Steve McClain, played their home games at Credit Union 1 Arena in Chicago, Illinois as members of the Horizon League. The finished the season 18–17, 10–8 in Horizon League to play to finish in a tie for fourth place. As the No. 4 seed in the Horizon League tournament, they defeated IUPUI, Youngstown State, and top-seeded Wright State to advance to the championship game. There they lost to Northern Kentucky.
The 2019–20 Wright State Raiders men's basketball team represented Wright State University in the 2019–20 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Raiders, led by fourth-year head coach Scott Nagy, played their home games at the Nutter Center in Fairborn, Ohio as members of the Horizon League. They finished the season 25–7, 15–3 in Horizon League play to be regular season Horizon League champions. They lost in the semifinals of the Horizon League tournament to UIC. As regular season league champions who failed to win their league tournament, they received an automatic bid to the National Invitation Tournament. However, the NIT, and all other postseason tournament, were cancelled amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2021–22 Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons men's basketball team represented Purdue University Fort Wayne in the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Mastodons, led by eighth-year head coach Jon Coffman, played their home games at the Hilliard Gates Sports Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana, as members of the Horizon League. They finished the regular season 21–11, 15–6 to earn a share of the regular season championship. As the No. 2 seed in the Horizon League tournament, they defeated UIC in the quarterfinals before losing to Northern Kentucky in the semifinals. They received a bid to the College Basketball Invitational, where they lost to top seed Drake in the first round.

They were unable to defend their crown, falling to Cleveland State in the Semifinals. Oakland finished as tournament champions after defeating Cleveland State 3–1 in the Final. This was the third overall title for Oakland, all of which have come under head coach Eric Pogue. As tournament champions, Oakland earned the Horizon League's automatic berth into the 2021 NCAA Division I men's soccer tournament.

The six team single-elimination tournament consisted of three rounds based on seeding from regular season conference play. The Oakland Grizzlies were the defending champions. They were unable to defend their crown, falling to Cleveland State in the Semifinals. Cleveland State would finish as tournament champions after defeating IUPUI 3–0 in the Final. This was the second overall title for Cleveland State and first for head coach Siniša Ubiparipović. As tournament champions, Cleveland State earned the Horizon League's automatic berth into the 2022 NCAA Division I men's soccer tournament.

The Milwaukee Panthers were the defending champions, and they successfully defended their title by beating the Northern Kentucky Norse 1–0 in the final. This was the sixteenth overall title for Milwaukee and second for head coach Kevin Boyd. This was also Milwaukee's sixth consecutive title. As tournament champions, Milwaukee earned the Horizon League's automatic berth into the 2023 NCAA Division I women's soccer tournament.
