The 2017 Kakinada Municipal Corporation election was held on August 10, 2017. Its purpose was to elect members for all 48 wards of the municipal corporation. [1] [2] After three decades of running, the Telugu Desam Party won the election, securing 32 of the 48 seats. [3]

Andhra Pradesh is a state in the south-eastern coastal region of India. It is the seventh-largest state by area covering an area of 162,975 km2 (62,925 sq mi) and tenth-most populous state with 49,386,799 inhabitants, with the state capital being Amaravati. It is bordered by Telangana to the north-west, Chhattisgarh to the north, Odisha to the north-east, Tamil Nadu to the south, Karnataka to the west and the Bay of Bengal to the east. It has the second longest coastline in India after Gujarat, of about 974 km (605 mi). Andhra Pradesh is the first state to be formed on a linguistic basis in India on 1 October 1953.
Visakhapatnam, formerly known as Vizagapatam is the largest and most populous city in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, and its proposed administrative capital. It is between the Eastern Ghats and the coast of the Bay of Bengal. It is the second-largest city on the east coast of India after Chennai, and the fourth-largest in South India. It is one of the four smart cities of Andhra Pradesh selected under the Smart Cities Mission and serves as the headquarters of Visakhapatnam district. With an estimated output of $43.5 billion, it is the ninth-largest contributor to India's gross domestic product as of 2016.
Nellore is a city located on the banks of Penna River, in Nellore district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It serves as the headquarters of the district, as well as Nellore mandal and Nellore revenue division. It is the fourth most populous city in the state. It is at a distance of 700 km from state's Executive capital Visakhapatnam and about 170 km north of Chennai, Tamilnadu and also about 380 km east-northeast of Bangalore, Karnataka. Nellore City accounts for 65% of the urban population of Nellore District.
The Telugu Desam Party, is a regional Indian political party active in the southern states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The party was founded by N. T. Rama Rao on 29 March 1982. Since 1995 the party has been headed by N. Chandrababu Naidu, former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. The party's headquarters is located at NTR Bhavan in Hyderabad.
East Godavari is a district in the Coastal Andhra region of Andhra Pradesh, India. Its district headquarters is at Kakinada. Rajahmundry, officially known as Rajamahendravaram, is a city in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is the seventh most populated city in the state. During British rule, the District of Rajahmundry was created in the Madras Presidency in 1823. It was reorganised in 1859 and bifurcated into the Godavari and Krishna districts. Rajahmundry was the headquarters of Godavari district, which was further bifurcated into East Godavari and West Godavari districts in 1925. When the Godavari district was bifurcated, Kakinada became the headquarters of East Godavari and Eluru became the headquarters of West Godavari. It is administered under Rajahmundry revenue division of the East Godavari district. The city is known for its floriculture, history, culture, agriculture, economy, tourism, and its heritage. It is known as the "Cultural Capital of Andhra Pradesh".
West Godavari district is one of the nine districts in the Coastal Andhra region of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The administrative headquarters of the district is situated at Eluru. As of 2011 census of India, the district has an area of 7,742 km2 (2,989 sq mi) and a population of 3,936,966. It is bounded by Krishna district on the west, East Godavari district on the east, Bay of Bengal on the south and the state of Telangana on the north.
Machilipatnam, also known as Bandar, is a city in Krishna district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is a municipal corporation and the administrative headquarters of Krishna district. The First Polytechnic college of Andhra Pradesh, Andhra Polytechnic was established here in 1946. It has a canal named Buckingham Canal where goods used to be transported by boats during the British rule. It was once home for Asia's largest sea port. Many people from the city migrated from this sea port to countries like Burma, Mauritius, Fiji and various southeast Asian countries to work there as workers where they were called as Coringas. They still live in those countries, learn Telugu and practice the Andhra culture.
Eluru is a city and the district headquarters of West Godavari district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is one of the 14 municipal corporations in the state and the mandal headquarters of Eluru mandal in the Eluru revenue division. The city is on the Tammileru river. The city is well known for its wool-pile carpets and hand woven products. As of 2011 Census of India, the city had a population of 214,414. Its history dates back to the second century CE.
Tanuku is a town in West Godavari district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is the mandal headquarters of Tanuku mandal in Kovvur revenue division. Tanuku is the fifth largest town in the West Godavari district after Eluru, Bhimavaram, Tadepalligudem and Palakollu in terms of population.
