The 2017 Pan American Women's Handball Championship was the 14th edition of the Pan American Women's Handball Championship, held in at the Sociedad Alemana de Gimnasia de Villa Ballester, in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina from 18 to 25 June 2017. It acted as American qualifying tournament for the 2017 World Women's Handball Championship. [1] The event was originally set to be held in Toronto, Canada [2] but the Canadian Handball Federation withdrew, citing lack of funds. [3]

Club Atlético River Plate, commonly known as River Plate, is an Argentine professional sports club based in the Núñez neighborhood of Buenos Aires. The Pan American Championship was the major international rugby tournament held in the Americas, hosted irregularly on five occasions from 1995 to 2003. The tournament was organized by the Pan American Rugby Association (PARA) and included the World Cup teams of Argentina, Canada and Uruguay in 1995, joined by the United States from 1996 onwards. Argentina won all five of the tournaments.

Club Deportivo UAI Urquiza is an Argentine sports club sited in Villa Lynch, General San Martín Partido of Greater Buenos Aires. Its men's football team currently plays at Primera B Metropolitana, the third division of the Argentine football league system. However, it is more recognized internationally by its women's side, which has competed in most of the more recent editions of the Copa Libertadores Femenina and became the main source of players for the Argentina women's national team.

The 2015 Copa Libertadores Femenina was the 7th edition of the Copa Libertadores Femenina, South America's premier women's club football tournament organized by CONMEBOL. The tournament was held in the city of Medellín, Colombia, from 28 October to 8 November 2015. It was the first time the tournament is hosted outside Brazil.

The 2015 Pan American Women's Handball Championship was the 13th edition of the Pan American Women's Handball Championship, held in Cuba from 21 to 28 May 2015. It acted as the American qualifying tournament for the 2015 World Women's Handball Championship.

The 2016 Pan American Men's Handball Championship was the 17th official competition for senior men's national handball teams of North, Center, Caribbean and South America. It was held from 11 to 19 June 2016 at the Tecnópolis in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It also acted as the qualifying competition for the 2017 World Men's Handball Championship in France, securing three vacancies for the World Championship.

The Pan American Women's Club Handball Championship, organized by the Pan-American Team Handball Federation, is the official competition for women's handball clubs of Americas crowning the Pan American champions.
