The 2017 Pan American Women's Handball Championship was the 14th edition of the Pan American Women's Handball Championship, held in at the Sociedad Alemana de Gimnasia de Villa Ballester, in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina from 18 to 25 June 2017. It acted as American qualifying tournament for the 2017 World Women's Handball Championship. [1] The event was originally set to be held in Toronto, Canada [2] but the Canadian Handball Federation withdrew, citing lack of funds. [3]
Brazil defeated Argentina 38–20 to capture their 10th title. [4]

Club Atlético River Plate, commonly known as River Plate, is an Argentine professional sports club based in the Núñez neighborhood of Buenos Aires. Founded in 1901, the club is named after the English name for the city's estuary, Río de la Plata. Although many sports are practiced at the club, River Plate is best known for its professional football team, which has won Argentina's Primera División championship a record of 37 times, its latest title in 2021. Domestic achievements also include 14 national cups, with the 2021 Trofeo de Campeones as the most recent, making River Plate the country's most successful team in domestic competitions with a total of 51 top-division titles.
The practice of sports in Argentina is varied due to the population's diverse European origins and the mostly mild climate. Association football is the most popular discipline and other sports played both professionally and recreatively athletics, auto racing, basketball, boxing, cycling, field hockey, fishing, golf, handball, mountaineering, mountain biking, padel tennis, polo, roller hockey, rowing, rugby union, sailing, skiing, swimming, tennis, and volleyball. Argentine achievements can be found in team sports such as association football, basketball, field hockey and rugby union, and individual sports such as boxing, golf, tennis and rowing. Pato, the national sport, is not very popular.
The Pan American Championship was the major international rugby tournament held in the Americas, hosted irregularly on five occasions from 1995 to 2003. The tournament was organized by the Pan American Rugby Association (PARA) and included the World Cup teams of Argentina, Canada and Uruguay in 1995, joined by the United States from 1996 onwards. Argentina won all five of the tournaments.
Club Deportivo UAI Urquiza is an Argentine sports club sited in Villa Lynch, General San Martín Partido of Greater Buenos Aires. Its men's football team currently plays at Primera B Metropolitana, the third division of the Argentine football league system. However, it is more recognized internationally by its women's side, which has competed in most of the more recent editions of the Copa Libertadores Femenina and became the main source of players for the Argentina women's national team.

The 2015 Copa Libertadores Femenina was the 7th edition of the Copa Libertadores Femenina, South America's premier women's club football tournament organized by CONMEBOL. The tournament was held in the city of Medellín, Colombia, from 28 October to 8 November 2015. It was the first time the tournament is hosted outside Brazil.
The 2015 Pan American Women's Handball Championship was the 13th edition of the Pan American Women's Handball Championship, held in Cuba from 21 to 28 May 2015. It acted as the American qualifying tournament for the 2015 World Women's Handball Championship.
The 2016 Pan American Men's Handball Championship was the 17th official competition for senior men's national handball teams of North, Center, Caribbean and South America. It was held from 11 to 19 June 2016 at the Tecnópolis in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The 2016 Pan American Women's Club Handball Championship was the first edition of the tournament organised by the Pan-American Team Handball Federation, and was held in Santiago, Chile 1–5 November.
The 2017 Pan American Men's Youth Handball Championship the XIII edition of this tournament took place in Santiago, Chile from 15 to 22 April 2017. It acts as a qualifying tournament for the 2017 Men's Youth World Handball Championship.
The 2018 Copa CONMEBOL Libertadores Femenina was the tenth edition of the CONMEBOL Libertadores Femenina, South America's premier women's club football tournament organized by CONMEBOL. The tournament was held in Manaus, Brazil from 18 November to 2 December 2018.
The 2018 Pan American Men's Handball Championship was the 18th official competition for senior men's national handball teams of North, Central and South America and the Caribbean. It was held from 16 to 24 June 2018 in Nuuk, Greenland. It also acted as the qualifying competition for the 2019 World Men's Handball Championship in Denmark and Germany, securing three vacancies for the World Championship.

The 2022 South and Central American Women's Club Handball Championship the 2nd edition of this tournament was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina from 30 May to 5 June 2022.
The 2022 South and Central American Women's Handball Championship was the third edition of the championship and held from 15 to 19 November 2022 at Buenos Aires, Argentina under the aegis of South and Central America Handball Confederation. It was the first time in history that the championship is organised by the Argentinean Handball Confederation and also acted as the qualification tournament for the 2023 World Women's Handball Championship, with the top two teams qualifying.
