The 2017 Patriot League women's basketball tournament was held March 4, 6, 10, and 11 at campus sites of the higher seed, except that both semi-final games will be played at the same site of the highest seed. This means that Bucknell vs. American and Army vs. Navy will both be played in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, at Sojka Pavilion on Friday, March 10, 2017, at 5:00pm and 7:30pm respectively. The winner of the tournament will earn an automatic trip to the NCAA women's tournament.

The MAAC men's basketball tournament is the conference championship tournament in basketball for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). The tournament has been held every year since 1982, the MAAC's first season. It is a single-elimination tournament and seeding is based on regular season records. The winner, declared conference champion, receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA men's basketball tournament. The MAAC did not receive its automatic bid from the NCAA until 1984.
The 1998 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament began on March 13, 1998, and concluded on March 29, 1998, when Tennessee won the national title. The Final Four was held at Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Missouri, on March 27–29, 1998. Tennessee, Louisiana Tech, NC State, and Arkansas qualified to the Final Four. Tennessee and Louisiana Tech won their semi-final Final Four matchups and continued on to the championship. Tennessee defeated Louisiana Tech 93–75 to take their sixth title, and complete an undefeated season (39–0).
The 2001 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament began on March 16 and ended on April 1. The tournament featured 64 teams. The Final Four, held at the Savvis Center in St. Louis, consisted of Connecticut, Notre Dame, Purdue, and Southwest Missouri State, with Notre Dame defeating Purdue 68–66 to win its first NCAA title. Notre Dame's Ruth Riley was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament.

The 2015 Southern Conference men's basketball tournament took place Friday, March 6 through Monday, March 9 in Asheville, North Carolina, at the U.S. Cellular Center. The entire tournament was streamed on ESPN3, with the Southern Conference Championship Game televised by ESPN2. The champion, Wofford, received an automatic bid into the 2015 NCAA tournament.
The 2015 Horizon League men's basketball tournament began on March 3, 2015, with the championship game on Tuesday, March 10. First round games were played on the home court of the higher-seeded team. The second round and semifinals were hosted by Valparaiso, because the Crusaders won the regular season conference championship. Since Valparaiso won its semifinal game, it also hosted the championship game. Only eight of the nine teams in the conference played in the Horizon League Tournament, as Milwaukee has been deemed ineligible for postseason play for the 2014–15 season.

The champion, Arizona, received the Pac-12 conference automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA tournament with an 83-80 win over Oregon in the finals.
The 2018 Pac-12 Conference men's basketball tournament was the postseason men's basketball tournament for the Pac-12 Conference and was played during March 7–10, 2018, at T-Mobile Arena on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. Number 1 seed Arizona defeated Number 2 seed USC in the championship game. Deandre Ayton was the Tournament MVP.
The 2018 Mountain West Conference men's basketball tournament was the postseason men's basketball tournament for the Mountain West Conference. It was held from March 7–10, 2018 at the Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of University of Nevada, Las Vegas, in Las Vegas, Nevada. San Diego State defeated New Mexico in the championship game to win the tournament receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

The 2018 Northeast Conference women's basketball tournament was the concluding event of the 2017–18 season of the Northeast Conference (NEC), held from March 7–11, 2018. Unlike most NCAA Division I basketball conference tournaments, the NEC tournament does not include all of the league's teams. The tournament instead features only the top eight teams from regular-season NEC play. Regular-season co-champion Saint Francis of Pennsylvania won the tournament and with it the NEC's automatic berth in the 2018 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament.

Kaitlyn Slagus was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
The 2019 Horizon League men's basketball tournament was the final event of the 2018–19 men's basketball season of the Horizon League. It began on March 5, 2019 and ended on March 12; first-round games were played at the home courts of the top four teams in regular-season league play, with all remaining games at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.
The 2020 Patriot League women's basketball tournament was the postseason women's basketball tournament for the Patriot League which was scheduled to be held from March 7 to March 15 at campus sites of the higher seed. The winner would have earned an automatic bid to the NCAA women's tournament. On March 12, the NCAA announced that the tournament was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
