The 2017 President of the Chamber of Deputies of Brazil election took place on 2 February 2017, following the opening of the 3rd session of the 55th Legislature of the National Congress. Incumbent President Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ) received 293 votes, way over the majority of the chamber, to become its President. [1] PTB leader Jovair Arantes (PTB-GO) garnered 105 votes, with 106 more going to other candidates (59 to André Figueiredo, 28 to Júlio Delgado, 10 to Luiza Erundina, 4 to Jair Bolsonaro, and 5 blank votes). As only 504 deputies in the 513-member Chamber cast a vote (due to absentees or members present but not voting), [2] 253 votes were necessary in order to win.

President Henrique Eduardo Alves (PMDB-RN) wasn't reelect federal deputy, but his caucus mate, Eduardo Cunha (PMDB-RJ), was chosen as the party's candidate. Cunha received 267 votes, over the majority of the Chamber, to become its president. PT leader Arlindo Chinaglia (PT-SP) garnered 136, and 100 votes to Júlio Delgado (PSB-MG), 8 to Chico Alencar (PSOL-RJ), and 2 blank votes.

The 2023 President of the Chamber of Deputies of Brazil election took place on 1 February 2023, the day after the opening day of the 1st Session of the 57th Legislature of the National Congress, almost four months after the 2022 elections. It will result in the election of the President of the Chamber of Deputies, two vice presidents, the positions of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Secretaries and their respective replacements. They will hold a biennial term (2023-2025), making it impossible for them to be re-elected in the same Legislature - as established in Art. 5 of the Internal Regulations of the Chamber of Deputies.
