The 2017 Social Democratic Party of Finland leadership election was held on 4 February 2017. 495 voting attendees of the 45th Social Democratic party convention, held in Lahti, [1] elected the incumbent chair Antti Rinne for a second term as the chair of Social Democratic Party. MP Timo Harakka finished second and MP Tytti Tuppurainen finished third. [2]

The Swedish People's Party of Finland is a Finnish political party founded in 1906. Its primary aim is to represent the interests of the minority Swedish-speaking population of Finland. The party is currently a participant in the Government of Petteri Orpo, holding the posts of Minister of Education, Minister for European Affairs, and Minister of Youth, Sport and Physical Activity.

Jutta Pauliina Urpilainen is a Finnish politician. She was the first female chair of the Social Democratic Party of Finland, which she led from 2008 to 2014. She was the Minister of Finance as well as the Deputy Prime Minister of Finland from 2011 to 2014. Since 1 December 2019, she is the European Commissioner for International Partnerships in the European Commission led by Ursula von der Leyen. She announced her candidacy for the 2024 election for President of Finland in November 2023.

Antti Juhani Rinne is a Finnish politician who served as speaker of the Parliament of Finland from April to June 2019 and Prime Minister of Finland from June to December 2019. He led the Social Democratic Party from 2014 until 2020. In August 2023, he was hired as the General Secretary of SAMAK for a three-year term.

Parliamentary elections were held in Finland on 14 April 2019. For the first time, no party received more than 20% of the vote. The Centre Party, which had been the largest party following the 2015 elections, dropped to fourth place, losing 18 seats and recording its lowest vote share since 1917. Maarit Kristiina Feldt-Ranta was a Finnish politician, who represented the Social Democratic Party of Finland. She had represented the electoral district of Uusimaa in the Parliament of Finland since 2007. In 2017, she was elected as the vice-chair of the party.

Incumbent president Sauli Niinistö was term-limited and ineligible to run for re-election, having served the maximum two terms, ensuring that the president elected would be the country's thirteenth.
