The 2017 Southern Conference men's basketball tournament took place Friday, March 3 through Monday, March 6 in Asheville, North Carolina, at the U.S. Cellular Center. [1] The entire tournament was streamed on ESPN3, with the Southern Conference Championship Game televised on ESPN at 7pm EST. The champion, East Tennessee State, received an automatic bid into the 2017 NCAA tournament with a 79–74 win over UNC Greensboro.

The 2017 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament involved 68 teams playing in a single-elimination tournament to determine the men's National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college basketball national champion for the 2016–17 season. The 79th edition of the tournament began on March 14, 2017, and concluded with the championship game on April 3 at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The championship game was the first to be contested in the Western United States since the 1995 tournament when Seattle was the host of the Final Four.

The 2017 SWAC men's basketball tournament was the postseason men's basketball tournament for the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Tournament first-round games were played at the campus of the higher seeded team on March 7. The remainder of the tournament was held on March 10 and 11, 2017 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. Texas Southern, received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Alcorn State lost to Texas Southern in the championship game, but was ineligible for NCAA postseason play due to APR violations. Had Alcorn State beaten Texas Southern, Texas Southern would have still received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament because of its first place finish in the regular season.

The 2018 Southern Conference men's basketball tournament was the postseason men's basketball tournament for the Southern Conference for the 2017–18 season. All tournament games were played at the U.S. Cellular Center in Asheville, North Carolina, from March 2 through 5, 2018.
