Santiago South Premier Division

ADESBA started the 2017-18 Premier Division season with a won over Eugénio Lima, their next win was at the fifth round where they defeated that new entrant Tira Chapéu 3-2 and fifth at the fifth round, they had eight points shared with Sporting Praia, ADESBA has 5 goals scored, two less than Sporting. Two losses to Praia's top five clubs followed on December 16 and were Travadores and Sporting. A win over AD Ribeira Grande was next and is the club's recent. Two more losses followed to Praia's other top five clubs Académica and Boavista with the last one, the region's worst as they lost 7-3 on January 5. Bairro is in mid-position, 6th place with 11 points and conceded 18 goals, third worst behind the last two placed clubs Tira Chapéu and Eugênio Lima. Up next was a goal draw with Desportivo on January 13 and was sixth with 12 points three less than that club and one more than Travadores. A comeback in winning ADESBA made, a win over the ailing Eugénio Lima with the result 2-1 and put that club into possible relegation to the Second Division. Bairro made a back to back draw overall, a two goal draw with Benfica was made on January 26, but their positions slipped down to 8th, ahead of the historically top club of Travadores with 16 points, a total shared with Desportivo, Ribeira Grande and Tchadense, the club scored 16 goals and conceded 22. A back to back win was made later on February 2 and defeated Tchadense with only 0-1 away and regained a position to 7th place, they had 19 points, also shared with Desportivo and Ribeira Grande. Instead of another win, ADESBA suffered their next loss in five matches and lost 3-1 to Celtic and remains seventh. Another back to back win arrived for ADESBA as they defeated the newcomer and 11th placed Tira Chapéu 1-2 at the 16th round, ADESBA has 22 points, also shared with Desportivo and Tchadense, they had 20 goals which was also shared with Tchadense, Bairro conceded 26 goals, eight more than Tchadense which kept Bairro to remain 7th. Bairro suffered a back to back win, also another loss to Travadores which was 1-2 at the 17th round, sixth with 22 points and has 21 goals shared with Desportivo, their only difference was Bairro conceded 28 goals, seven more than Desportivo's. On March 1, Bairro suffered a second straight loss to the almighty Sporting with the score 3-0 and lost a position to 8th as they had a goal difference of 10 over Ribeira Grande's 8. The battle for Bairro's position gain occurred on March 8 where they once more defeated Ribeira Grande and also prevented their club records from being made. Bairro rose to sixth with 25 points. Bairro suffered another loss which was 3-0 to almighty Académica at round 20, Bairro was still sixth due to Desportivo's and Ribeira Grande's losses of the round. Bairro suffered another loss, this one to the mighty Boavista at the 21st round and their positions dropped to eighth. Their points equaled Desportivo's and Ribeira Grande's. The final match of the season was with Desportivo which ended once more in a draw with a goal apiece. Bairro finished 8th with 26 points, 7 wins and 23 goals, on the opposites, they conceded 38 goals, which was one of the highest in Bairro's history.

Sporting Clube da Praia

Sporting Clube da Praia, short form: Sporting Praia is a professional football club that plays in the Santiago South Premier Division in Cape Verde. It is based in the capital city of Praia in the island of Santiago, one of the unrelegated clubs in the south of the island along with three of the city's four historically mightiest clubs including Académica, Boavista and CD Travadores. Along with Académcia, Boavista, Desportivo, Travadores and Vitória, it is one of several teams that share the same ground, Estádio da Várzea, which has a capacity of 8,000. Sporting has won six championships since independence and a few before independence. The first title was won in the summer of 1962 before independence. Sporting recently won the 2017 national title. Its current president is Carlos Daniel Caetano and its manager is Lito, who once played for Portuguese clubs as footballer.

CD Travadores association football club

Clube Desportivo Travadores is a football club in the Santiago South Premier Division in Cape Verde and are one of the unrelegated clubs of the Premier Division. It is based in the capital city of Praia, on the island of Santiago, and plays in a stadium with a capacity of 8,000. It is affiliated with S.L. Benfica and was the first Benfica affiliate in Cape Verde and the western part of West Africa. Its nicknames are indios and águias

Associação Académica da Praia is a football club that plays in the Premier division of the Santiago Island League (South) in Cape Verde. It is played along with Praia's three other famous teams in Estádio da Varzea, the club also practices at the stadium and over a kilometer east in Achada Grande Frente. Its current president is Kiki and manager is Janito Carvalho who coached Sporting Praia in the previous season.

Santiago South Cup

Bairro started off the cup competition at the second round in the final two weeks of 2017 on December 20. They faced their opponent Celtic da Praia, again the same club as they did last season. The match ended in the scoreless draw, in the penalty shootout, they were thrown out from further competitions as they lost it 8-7.

Boavista Futebol Clube is a football club that had played in the Premier division and plays in the Santiago Island South Zone League in Cape Verde. It is based in the city of Praia in the island of Santiago. The team has only reached a few of these games before and after independence. The 2017–18 Santiago South Premier Division season was the 16th second tier football competition in the southern part of the island of Santiago, Cape Verde, from 3 November 2017 to 1 April 2018, a month earlier than last season. The tournament was organized by the Santiago South Regional Football Association. All matches were played at Estádio da Várzea. Académica Praia won their next title in nine years and participated in the 2017 Cape Verdean Football Championships and played in Group A. Académica finished with a new regional record of 56 points, beating Sporting Praia's 55 of the previous season, overall of any regional championship competitions, it is third behind of the clubs of the island's North Zone, GD Varandinha with 63 and Scorpion Vermelho with 61. Sporting Praia, the previous national champion also qualified, the club finished fourth for the season. Académica Praia will qualify in the upcoming 2018 Santiago South Super Cup.
