Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference NCAA Division II athletic conference

The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) is a collegiate athletic conference which operates in the western Midwestern United States. Nine of its members are in Minnesota, with three members in South Dakota, two members in North Dakota, and one member each in the states of Iowa and Nebraska. It participates in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)'s Division II level. It was founded in 1932. With the recent NSIC expansion, the original six member schools have been reunited. Minnesota State University, Mankato, also known as Minnesota State, is a public university in Mankato, Minnesota. Established as the Second State Normal School in 1858, it was designated in Mankato in 1866, and officially opened as Mankato Normal School in 1868. It is the second oldest member of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. It is also the second largest public university in the state, and has over 123,000 living alumni worldwide. It is the most comprehensive of the seven state universities and is referred to as the flagship of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system. It is an important part of the economy of Southern Minnesota and the state as it adds more than $781 million to the economy of Minnesota annually.

Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center Multi-purpose arena in Mankato, Minnesota

The Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center is a 5,280-seat multi-purpose arena in Mankato, Minnesota, built in 1994 and opened in early 1995. It is home to the Minnesota State Mavericks men's ice hockey team and also hosts musical performances, conventions and other events. Prior to its construction, the team played their home games at All Seasons Arena, which is now their main practice facility.

The 2009-10 Minnesota State Mavericks women's ice hockey season took place under head coach Eric Means.

The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs women's ice hockey team plays for the University of Minnesota Duluth at the AMSOIL Arena in Duluth, Minnesota. The team is a member of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) and competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the Division I tier. The Bulldogs have won five NCAA Championships.

The Minnesota State Mavericks are the college athletic teams of Minnesota State University, Mankato. More than 600 students participate each year in athletics for the university. Most of the university's athletic teams compete at the NCAA Division II level in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The men's and women's ice hockey teams compete at the Division I level in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). Minnesota State began competition in the NSIC in 2008-09, due to the dissolution of the North Central Conference.

Don Brose is a retired American ice hockey coach. Brose was the head coach at Minnesota State University, Mankato from 1969 to 2000. He previously served as the head coach at Concordia College (Minnesota) from 1958 to 1962. In 34 years as a head coach, Brose compiled a record of 540 wins, 363 losses, and 79 ties. At the end of the 2009–2010 hockey season, Brose ranked 14th all-time among college men's ice hockey coaches.

The Minnesota State Mavericks men's ice hockey team is a NCAA Division I college ice hockey program that represents Minnesota State University, Mankato. The Mavericks compete in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). Their home arena is the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center located in downtown Mankato, Minnesota.

Mike Hastings is the current head ice hockey coach of the Minnesota State University, Mankato Mavericks. He was formerly the head coach and general manager of the Omaha Lancers in the United States Hockey League. He is also the coach for the United States World Juniors team.

All Seasons Arena is a two-rink facility built in 1973 and located in Mankato, Minnesota, United States. It is the former home of the Minnesota State Mavericks women's ice hockey.

The 1999 WCHA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament was the 40th conference playoff in league history and 47th season where a WCHA champion was crowned. The 1999 tournament played between March 12 and March 20, 1999, at five conference arenas and the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. By winning the tournament, Denver was awarded the Broadmoor Trophy and received the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's automatic bid to the 1999 NCAA Men's Division I Ice Hockey Tournament.

Sarah Potomak is a Canadian ice hockey player that competed with the Under 18 Canadian national women's hockey team. She made her debut with the Canada women's national ice hockey team at the 2015 4 Nations Cup, being held from November 4–8 in Sundsvall, Sweden. Along with her sister Amy Potomak, they are the first sister duo named to the roster of Canada's national women's ice hockey team. The two played together in a two-game series against the United States national women's ice hockey team in December 2016.

Teodors Bļugers is a Latvian professional ice hockey forward for the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected 52nd overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Penguins, making him the third-highest selected Latvian hockey player in the NHL Entry Draft, behind Zemgus Girgensons and Sandis Ozoliņš.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers women's ice hockey program represented the University of Minnesota during the 2015-16 NCAA Division I women's ice hockey season. The program advanced to the Frozen Four championship game for the fifth consecutive year and defeated the Boston College Eagles by a 3–1 tally in the title game.
