The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2005 took place 16–27 February 2005 in Oberstdorf, Germany, for the second time after hosting it previously in 1987. The ski jumping team normal hill event returned after not being held in 2003. The double pursuit distances of 10 km women and 20 km men were lengthened to 15 km for women and 30 km for men. Team sprint was also added as well. The Nordic combined 4 × 5 km team event had its change between ski jumping points and cross-country skiing start time changed from 1 point equals to 1.5 seconds to 1 point equals 1 second at this championship.

Tarjei Bø is a Norwegian professional biathlete. Bø debuted in the Biathlon World Cup on 26 March 2009 in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. In the 2010 Winter Olympics he earned his first gold medal in the 4 × 7.5 km biathlon relay. On 10 December 2010 he won the sprint race in Hochfilzen, earning his first world cup victory. He also won the following pursuit race and anchored the winning relay team. Bø is the older brother of biathlete Johannes Thingnes Bø.

Dmitriev is a four-time European Champion at senior level in the Sprint event for men, and the most successful sprint cyclist in the competitions's history.

Jeffrey Hoogland is a Dutch track cyclist. He represented his nation in three editions of the 2013, 2014 and 2015 UCI Track Cycling World Championships. At the 2015 UEC European Track Championships, he collected a total of three gold medals, individually in the sprint and the 1 km time trial, and with Nils van 't Hoenderdaal and Hugo Haak in the team sprint.

He ran the anchor leg in the 4×100m relay of the Italian team that won the gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics. He is coached by his father, Salvino Tortu, a former Sardinian sprinter who moved to Lombardy.
