The 2018 Nationals was the 48th Men's Nationals. The Nationals was a team handball tournament to determine the National Champion from 2018 from the US.
The championship was played at venues at the Myrtle Beach Sports Center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. [1]

The Air Force Academy which ranked 3rd at the Wildcard Standings will not attending the competition. [2]
First there is a playoff game between Houston Firehawks and Los Angeles THC for the last wildcard. The loser play in the Open Division
After that the eight teams are split in two pools A and B and they play a round roubin.
The last two teams per group were qualified for the 5-8th place semifinals.
The losers from the 5-8th place semis played a 7th place game and the winners the 5th place game.
The best two teams per group were qualified for the semifinals.
The losers from the semis played a small final and the winners the final.

A wild card is a tournament or playoff berth awarded to an individual or team that fails to qualify in the normal way; for example, by having a high ranking or winning a qualifying stage. In some events, wildcards are chosen freely by the organizers. Other events have fixed rules. Some North American professional sports leagues compare the records of teams which did not qualify directly by winning a division or conference.

Hungary competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. The country sent 131 individual competitors plus the men's and women's water polo teams and the women's handball team for a total of 171 athletes taking part in the 2008 Summer Olympics. Hungary's gold medal count of 3 was the lowest in the nation's Summer Olympic history since the 1924 Paris Summer Olympics. Its total medal count of 10 was the lowest since the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam.
Romania competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics, held in Beijing, China from August 8 to August 24, 2008. Romania intended to send 104 competitors to Beijing, although the delegation was reduced to 102 when two Romanian athletes were suspended for doping before the start of the Olympics. The Romanian delegation for Beijing was the smallest Romanian Olympic delegation since the 1989 Revolution. Romanians competed in 16 sports: athletics, archery, handball, gymnastics, wrestling, swimming, diving, weightlifting, fencing, table tennis, shooting, tennis, judo, boxing, kayak-canoeing, and rowing.
France competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, between 27 July and 12 August 2012. French athletes have competed in every Summer Olympic Games of the modern era. The French Olympic Committee sent a total of 330 athletes to the Games, 183 men and 147 women, to compete in 24 sports.
Norway competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, from 27 July to 12 August 2012. This was the nation's twenty-fourth appearance at the Summer Olympics; Norway did not take part in the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis and the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, due to the country's support for the United States boycott. The Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports sent a total of 66 athletes to the Games, 34 men and 32 women, to compete in 14 sports. Women's handball was the only team-based sport in which Norway was represented in these Olympic games. There was only a single competitor in badminton, mountain biking, diving, equestrian dressage, fencing and wrestling.
The men's basketball tournament at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, began on 29 July and ended on 12 August, when the United States defeated Spain 107–100 for the gold medal. All preliminary games were held at the Basketball Arena within the Olympic Park, while the knockout matches took place at The O2 Arena.
The 2018 College Nationals was the 23rd Men's College Nationals. The College Nationals was a team handball tournament to determine the College National Champion from 2018 from the US. The University of Virginia played extremely well, wildly outperforming expectations behind strong performances from the outgoing fourth-year class, but ultimately fell short in the final to the machine-like cadets from West Point. UVA has improved vastly over the last three years, and has risen to the elite ranks of collegiate team handball.
