The 2019 FIBA 3x3 U18 World Cup consists of two sections:
3x3 basketball is a variation of basketball played three-a-side, with one backboard and in a half-court setup. According to an ESSEC Business School study commissioned by the International Olympic Committee, 3x3 is the largest urban team sport in the world. This basketball game format is currently being promoted and structured by FIBA, the sport's governing body. Its primary competition is an annual FIBA 3X3 World Tour, comprising a series of Masters and one Final tournament, and awarding six-figure prize money in US dollars. The FIBA 3x3 World Cups for men and women are the highest tournaments for national 3x3 teams. The 3x3 format has been adopted for both the 2020 Summer Olympics and 2022 Commonwealth Games.
The Philippines men's national 3x3 team represents the country in international 3x3 basketball matches and is governed by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas.
The USA Women's 3x3 Teams are two of the teams under the auspices of the USA Basketball organization. In 2007, FIBA decided to start championships for the 3x3 event, starting in 2010. Two events are held, one for athletes under 18 years of age and one open event. The under 18 event (U18) is held every year, although in every fourth year, starting with 2010, the event is part of the Youth Olympic Games. The open events are held every other year, in even-numbered years, starting in 2012.

The FIBA 3x3 U17 Asia Cup for boys and girls is the Asian edition of the FIBA Asia's FIBA 33 championship for boys and girls under the age of 18. The first tournament games were held at Bangkok, Thailand from 22 May to 24 May 2013. The Philippines and Chinese Taipei clinched the inaugural FIBA Asia 3x3 Under-18 Championship for Boys and Girls, respectively.

Maik-Kalev Kotsar is an Estonian professional basketball player for Saski Baskonia of the Spanish Liga ACB and the EuroLeague. He played college basketball for South Carolina Gamecocks. Kotsar also has played for the Estonia men's national basketball team as well as the Estonia men's national 3x3 team. Listed at 6 feet 11 inches (2.11 m) and 270 pounds (122 kg), he plays the center position.
