The 2019 FIL Junior European Luge Championships took place under the auspices of the International Luge Federation at St. Moritz-Celerina Olympic Bobrun, St. Moritz, Switzerland from 18 to 19 January 2019.

Luge Sliding sport and type of sled

A luge is a small one- or two-person sled on which one sleds supine and feet-first. A luger steers by using the calf muscles to flex the sled's runners or by exerting opposite shoulder pressure to the seat. Racing sleds weigh 21–25 kg (46–55 lb) for singles and 25–30 kg (55–66 lb) for doubles. Luge is also the name of an Olympic sport.

Sledding

Hammarstrand Place in Jämtland, Sweden

Hammarstrand is a locality and the seat of Ragunda Municipality in Jämtland County, Sweden with 1,052 inhabitants in 2010. The town is host to a bobsleigh and luge track. It was built on the dry bed of the former lake Ragundasjön, which drained suddenly catastrophically in 1796.

Medals awarded for the skeleton discipline at the 1948 Winter Olympics held in St Moritz. At that time the sport was called cresta, and St. Moritz had the most famous Cresta Run, dating to 1884. In many locations the sport was referred to as tobogganing during these and the 1928 Games. The contest was run over a total of six runs.

Günther Huber is an Italian bobsledder who competed in the 1990s. Before taking up bobsledding, he had originally started his sporting career in luge, with his most notable result being a third place in doubles in the 1982 World Junior Luge Championships: he switched to bobsleigh in 1988.

International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation International sport governing body

The International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF), originally known by the French name Fédération Internationale de Bobsleigh et de Tobogganing (FIBT), is the international sports federation for bobsleigh and skeleton. It acts as an umbrella organization for 14 national bobsleigh and skeleton associations as of 2007. It was founded on 23 November 1923 by the delegates of Great Britain, France, Switzerland, Canada, and the United States at the meeting of their first International Congress in Paris, France. In June 2015, it announced a name change from FIBT to IBSF. The federation's headquarters are in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Susi Erdmann German bobsledder and luger

Susi-Lisa Erdmann is an East German-German luger and bobsledder who competed from 1977 to 1998 in luge, then since 1999 in bobsleigh. Competing in five Winter Olympics, she won two medals in the women's singles luge event with a silver in 1994 and a bronze in 1992, and a bronze at the inaugural two-women bobsleigh event in 2002. She is one of only two people to ever win a medal in both bobsleigh and luge at the Winter Olympics; Italy's Gerda Weissensteiner is the other.

Martina Kocher Swiss luger

Martina Kocher is a Swiss former luger who competed between 1999 and 2018. She is Switzerland's most successful luger. She first slid on a luge at the age of nine at St. Moritz, after taking an interest in the sport when her father Heinz, a former bobsledder-turned-coach of bobsleigh and luge, took her along to a training course he was leading.

Anna Berreiter German luger

Anna Berreiter is a German luger. She is two-time Under-23 World Champion and won a silver medal in the sprint event at the 2021 FIL World Luge Championships, as well as the 2022 Winter Olympics. Berreiter is the youngest woman to win a Luge World Cup race and so far, won 3 World Cup singles races in her career.

Cheyenne Rosenthal German luger

Cheyenne Rosenthal is a German luger. She is the 2019 Junior World champion, 2018 Junior European champion and the overall winner of the 2017/18 Junior World Cup. She made her Luge World Cup debut in 2019/20 season, and reached her first World Cup podium at the sprint race in Whistler Sliding Centre by finishing in third-place.

The 2020–21 Luge World Cup was a multi race tournament over a season for Luge, organised by the FIL. The season started 28 November 2020 in Innsbruck, Austria, and concluded on 6 February 2021 in St. Moritz, Switzerland.

The 2021–22 Luge World Cup was a multi race tournament over a season for Luge, organised by the FIL. The season started on 20 November 2021 in Yanqing, China, and concluded on 23 January 2022 in St. Moritz, Switzerland.

The 2022 FIL European Luge Championships were held from 22 to 23 January 2022 in St. Moritz, Switzerland.
