The 2019 Monaghan Intermediate Football Championship will be the nth edition of Monaghan GAA's primary gaelic football tournament for intermediate clubs in County Monaghan, Ireland. Ten teams compete, with the winners representing Monaghan in the AIB GAA Ulster Club Intermediate Football Championship. The championship uses a double-elimination format for Rounds 1 and 2 before becoming knock-out. [1]

Contents

Doohamlet are the defending champions after defeating Sean McDermott's in the 2018 final. The 2019 competition sees the return of Cremartin and Emyvale to the Intermediate ranks following their promotion from the Junior competition, and also Magheracloone and Monaghan Harps, following their relegation from the Senior ranks.

Team Changes

The two bottom-placed teams in the Monaghan Senior Football League are relegated to the Intermediate ranks for the following season, with the Intermediate Football Championship winners and Intermediate Football League winners promoted in their place. If a team wins both the Intermediate Championship and League, then the next highest placed team in the League will be promoted. Similarly, the two bottom-placed teams in the Monaghan Intermediate Football League are relegated to the Junior ranks for the following season, with the Junior Football Championship winners and Junior Football League winners promoted in their place. If a team wins both the Junior Championship and League, then the next highest placed team in the League will be promoted. [1]

The Ulster Junior Club Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football tournament played between the hundreds of junior football clubs in Ulster. There are nine county championships between the nine counties of Ulster. The nine winners go on to play each other in the Ulster Club Championship in a knock-out format. The winners go on to compete with the Connacht, Leinster, Munster and London champions in the All-Ireland Junior Club Football Championship.

Carrickmacross Emmets is a Gaelic football club from Carrickmacross in County Monaghan in Ireland. The club was founded in 1887. The club participates in Monaghan competitions. The club has won the Monaghan Senior Football Championship eight times and have come runner-up seven times. The Club colours are Green and Yellow. The first club grounds played on were Athletic Grounds, then the Gaelic Grounds. In 1938 the club moved to its present grounds at Emmet Park, which was developed into one of the best venues in the county. It was officially opened in 1953 when Monaghan played Meath. In recent years the club secured property on the Donaghmoyne Road and have developed a full size playing pitch and a training area along with modern changing facilities that can cater for four teams. At present the site is chiefly used for training purposes for adult and juvenile teams as well as ladies and hurling teams but games can be played there when necessary.

Magheracloone Mitchells is a Gaelic Athletic Association Gaelic football club from the parish of Magheracloone in County Monaghan, Ireland. The team participate in the Monaghan Senior Football Championship. The Magheracloone Mitchells GAA club pitch is situated on the main Carrickmacross-Kingscourt Road. On the site there are two pitches, modern changing rooms as well as a community centre and a handball alley.
