The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) is the governing body of association football, beach soccer, and futsal in most countries/territories in Asia. It has 47 members. The Asian Ladies Football Confederation (ALFC) was the section of AFC who managed women's association football in Asia. The group was independently founded in April 1968 in a meeting involving Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore. In 1986 ALFC merged with AFC.

The futsal competition at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics was held from 7 to 18 October. At Tecnópolis and the CeNARD, the first one located in Villa Martelli, and the second one in Buenos Aires. There are two tournaments, one for boys and one for girls.

It was scheduled to be hosted by Indonesia between 21 May and 12 June 2021, which would have been the first FIFA tournament hosted by the country. The 2021 AFC U-20 Futsal Asian Cup was meant to be the third edition of AFC U-20 Futsal Asian Cup, the biennial international futsal championship organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for the men's youth national futsal teams of Asia. The tournament was originally scheduled between 22 and 30 May 2021, but had been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
