The Asian Handball Federation (AHF) is the governing body of handball and beach handball in Asia. It has 44 member countries, mostly located on the Asian continent, but excludes the transcontinental countries with territory in both Europe and Asia – Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russian Federation and Turkey – which are instead members of European Handball Federation (EHF). Three other states located along the western fringe of Asia – Cyprus, Armenia and Israel – are also EHF members. Hong Kong China and Macau, although not independent countries, are also members of the AHF.
Handball Federation of India was founded by Jagat Singh Lohan from Rohtak (Haryana), who was an alumnus of YMCA College of Physical Education of Madras. Lohan was founder of handball, netball and throwball games in India. His efforts during Munich Olympics helped in establishing HFI. The member states were Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Vidharbha and Jammu and Kashmir. He was also elected as first secretary general of Handball Federation of India.
The qualification for the 2020 Women's Olympic Handball Tournament assigned quota places to twelve teams: the hosts, the World champion, four continental champions and six teams from the World Olympic qualification tournaments respectively. The 2020 Olympics were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2018 Asian Men's Youth Handball Championship was the 8th edition of the championship held from 16 to 26 September 2018 at Amman (Jordan) under the aegis of Asian Handball Federation. It was the third time in history that championship was organised in Jordan by the Jordan Handball Federation. The top four teams qualified for the 2019 Men's Youth World Handball Championship to be held in Republic of Macedonia.
The 2019 Asian Women's Youth Handball Championship was the 8th edition of the championship held from 21 to 30 August 2019 at Jaipur, India under the aegis of Asian Handball Federation. It was the second time in history that championship was organised in India by the Handball Federation of India. It also acted as the qualification tournament for the 2020 Women's Youth World Handball Championship.
The 2020 Women's Youth (U-18) World Handball Championship would have been the eighth edition of the championship to be held from 29 September to 11 October 2020 in Croatia under the aegis of International Handball Federation (IHF). It would have been the first time in history that the championship would have been organised by Croatian Handball Federation.
The 2021 Men's Hockey Junior Asia Cup was scheduled to be the 9th edition of the Men's Hockey Junior Asia Cup, the men's international under-21 field hockey championship of Asia organized by the Asian Hockey Federation. The 2022 Asian Youth Beach Handball Championship will be 2nd edition of the championship to be held from 22 to 28 March 2022 at Tehran, Iran under the aegis of Asian Handball Federation (AHF). It will be first time in history that the championship will be organised by IR Iran Handball Federation. It also acts as a qualification tournament for the 2022 Youth Beach Handball World Championship, with the two teams in each gender from the championship directly qualifying for the event to be hosted by Greece. The participants should be born between 1 January, 2004 and 31 December, 2006.
