The 2020 Niue National Awards were the first awards made under the Niue National Awards system to recognise achievement and service by Niueans. They were announced in October 2022. [1]

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Niue</span> Island country in the South Pacific Ocean

Niue is an island country in the South Pacific Ocean, 2,400 kilometres (1,500 mi) northeast of New Zealand. Niue's land area is about 261 square kilometres (101 sq mi) and its population, predominantly Polynesian, was about 1,600 in 2016. Niue is located in a triangle between Tonga, Samoa, and the Cook Islands. It is 604 kilometres northeast of Tonga. The island is commonly referred to as "The Rock", which comes from the traditional name "Rock of Polynesia". Niue is one of the world's largest coral islands. The terrain of the island has two noticeable levels. The higher level is made up of a limestone cliff running along the coast, with a plateau in the centre of the island reaching approximately 60 metres above sea level. The lower level is a coastal terrace approximately 0.5 km wide and about 25–27 metres high, which slopes down and meets the sea in small cliffs. A coral reef surrounds the island, with the only major break in the reef being in the central western coast, close to the capital, Alofi.

Mititaiagimene Young Vivian is a Niuean politician and diplomat, who served as Premier of Niue twice, the first time from December 1992 to March 1993 following the death of Sir Robert Rex, and the second from 2002 to 2008. He also served as a Cabinet Minister multiple times, first as Minister of Education, Economic Development and Agriculture and later as Minister of Finance under Robert Rex, and in the Cabinet of Sani Lakatani. From 1979 to 1982 he served as Secretary-General of the South Pacific Commission.

Alofi is the capital of the Pacific Ocean island nation of Niue. With a population of 597 in 2017, Alofi has the distinction of being the second smallest national capital city in terms of population. It consists of the two villages: Alofi North and Alofi South where the government headquarters are located.

Niue Soccer Tournament was the top soccer division in Niue on an amateur basis. It was organised by the Niue Island Soccer Association, which as of 2021 had been defunct for a decade.

General elections were held in Niue on June 7, 2008. They were initially expected to be held in April, but were delayed until June 2008. Niue has a 20-member legislative assembly, called the Niue Assembly, whose members are elected by approximately 600 registered voters. The assembly consists of 20 total members, 6 elected on a common roll and 14 representatives of the villages

Enetama Lipitoa is a former politician from Niue. He was an Assemblyman for Namukulu when he was elected into the Niue Legislative Assembly and was appointed to the Executive Council following the 1972 election. In 1973 he served as part of the negotiating team which negotiated the terms of Niue's self-government. He became a Cabinet Minister in Robert Rex's first Government following the attainment of self-government status by Niue on 19 October 1974.

The Arts Pasifika Awards celebrate excellence in Pacific arts in New Zealand. The annual awards are administered by Creative New Zealand and are the only national awards for Pasifika artists across all artforms.

The Paliati Grounds is the multi-use national stadium of the Pacific Island nation of Niue. The stadium has a capacity of 1,000 spectators. It is located adjacent to the Niue High School and the Niue campus of the University of the South Pacific.

The Niue National Awards is a system of orders, decorations and medals to recognise the achievements of, or service by, Niueans. It was established in 2020. Previously Niue had fallen under the New Zealand royal honours system. The awards are decided by the National Awards Committee and announced each year on Constitution Day, 19 October.

The 2021 Niue National Awards were awards made under the Niue National Awards system to recognise achievement and service by Niueans. They were announced on 19 October 2021.

The 2022 Niue National Awards were awards made under the Niue National Awards system to recognise achievement and service by Niueans. They were announced on 19 October 2022.
