The 2020 Taiwan Football Challenge League is the first year of men's second division football in Taiwan.

The top team from the Second Division league is automatically promoted to the Taiwan Premier League and the lowest placed team in the Taiwan Premier League is relegated to the Second Division League. The runner-up of the Second Division League will play in a qualification play-off final with the 7th places team in the Taiwan Premier League, which results in the winner playing in the first Division. Similarly, the 7th and 8th placed teams in Second Division will play a qualification tournament with the 1st and 2nd teams from the Challengers tournament which the top two teams stay in Second Division.[ citation needed ]

The 2009 Intercity Football League season is the third since its establishment in 2007. It started from February 14, 2009.

The 2012 Chinese Football Association Division Two League season is the 23rd season since its establishment in 1989. It is divided into two groups, North and South. There are total 26 teams participating in the league with 13 teams in each group. The league is made up of two stages, the group stage and the play-off. The Group Stage is a double round-robin format. Each team in the group will play the other teams twice, home and away. It will start on April 20 and end on September 28. The Play-off Stage is a two-legged elimination. It will start in October. At the end of the season, the two finalists of the Play-off will qualify for promotion to 2013 China League One.

The 2017 Taiwan Football Premier League (TFPL) was the first season of the Taiwan Football Premier League since it replaced the Intercity Football League following the 2016 season. It was contested by 8 clubs. Taichung City Dragon, who participated in the final Intercity Football League season, were replaced for the inaugural TFPL by Tainan City. Taipower FC finished at the top of the table, but were defeated 1-1 on away goals in a playoff by Tatung FC, the second ranked team, for the title. With that result, Tatung FC earned an automatic berth in the 2018 AFC Cup group stage, while Taipower FC qualified for the playoff round.
