2021 AmEast tournament winner

The 2021 America East Men's Basketball Conference tournament was the post-season men's basketball tournament for the America East Conference that began on February 27, 2021 and ended on March 13, 2021. Starting in the semifinals, all tournament games were played on the home arenas of the higher-seeded school. In Pod Play and the Quarterfinals, games were played at either New Hampshire or Hartford. The winner received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. [1] [2]

Seeds

All of the teams, except for Maine, in the conference standings qualified for the tournament. Maine cancelled their season after going 2–7, so they did not compete in the conference tournament. [3] The teams were seeded by record in conference, with a tiebreaker system to seed teams with identical conference records.

The selection process for college basketball's NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments determine which teams will enter the tournaments and their seedings and matchups in the knockout bracket. Currently, thirty-two (32) teams gain automatic entry through winning their conference's championship. The remaining teams rely on the selection committee to award them an at-large bid in the tournament. The selection process primarily takes place on Selection Sunday and the days leading up to it. Selection Sunday is also when the men's brackets and seeds are released to the public. Beginning in 2022, the women's championship brackets and seeds are also announced on Sunday. Prior to the expansion of the bracket from 64 to 68 teams the women's championship brackets and seeds were announced one day later, on Selection Monday.

The Cincinnati–Louisville rivalry is a college sports rivalry between the University of Cincinnati Bearcats and the University of Louisville Cardinals. The rivalry between these two schools, located about 100 miles (160 km) apart, dates to their first men's college basketball game in 1921, and has continued across all sports, with the football series gaining attention as well, having started in 1929. Both universities share common characteristics, both being over 200 year old institutions in urban settings. The 2018 Northeast Conference men's basketball tournament was the postseason men's basketball tournament for the Northeast Conference for the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. All tournament games were played at the home arena of the highest seed, on February 28, March 3, and March 6, 2018. The No. 4 seed LIU Brooklyn defeated No. 1 seed Wagner in the championship game to earn the NEC's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

The 2018–19 Stony Brook Seawolves men's basketball team represented Stony Brook University in the 2018–19 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They played their home games at the Island Federal Credit Union Arena in Stony Brook, New York and were led by third-year head coach Jeff Boals. The team won 24 regular season games, a school record as a Division I program, including a nation-leading 13 road wins and received the No. 2 seed in the America East tournament. However, they lost in the quarterfinals to Binghamton.

The 2019 Northeast Conference men's basketball tournament was the postseason men's basketball tournament for the Northeast Conference for the 2018–19 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. All tournament games are played at the home arena of the highest seed. The tournament took place March 6 through March 12, 2019. Fairleigh Dickinson defeated Saint Francis (PA) 85–76 in the championship game to win the tournament, and received the NEC's automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA tournament.

The 2019–20 Vermont Catamounts men's basketball team represented the University of Vermont in the 2019–20 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They played their home games at the Patrick Gym in Burlington, Vermont and were led by ninth-year head coach John Becker. They finished the season 26–7, 14–2 in America East play to win the reagular season conference championship. They defeated Maine and UMBC to advance to the championship game of the America East tournament. However, the championship game, along with all other postseason tournaments, were cancelled amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2019–20 Stony Brook Seawolves women's basketball team represent Stony Brook University during the 2019–20 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Seawolves, led by sixth-year head coach Caroline McCombs, play their home games at the Island Federal Credit Union Arena and are members in the America East Conference.

The 2020–21 Indiana Hoosiers men's basketball team represented Indiana University in the 2020–21 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The head coach was Archie Miller, in his fourth and final year as Indiana head coach. The team played its home games at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Indiana, as a member of the Big Ten Conference. The Hoosiers finished the season 12–15, 7–12 in Big Ten play to finish in a tie for the 10th place. As the No. 10 seed in the Big Ten tournament, they lost in the first round to Rutgers.

The 2021–22 Stony Brook Seawolves women's basketball team represented Stony Brook University in the 2021–22 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. They played their home games at the Island Federal Credit Union Arena in Stony Brook, New York and were led by first-year head coach Ashley Langford, who took over the position after Caroline McCombs left to become the head coach for George Washington. They were members of the America East Conference.
