The Central American Handball Championship is the official competition for Men's and Women's national handball teams of Central America. In addition to crowning the Central American champions, the tournament also serves as a qualifying tournament for the Pan American Handball Championship.

2016 Pan American Mens Handball Championship

The 2016 Pan American Men's Handball Championship was the 17th official competition for senior men's national handball teams of North, Center, Caribbean and South America. It was held from 11 to 19 June 2016 at the Tecnópolis in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It also acted as the qualifying competition for the 2017 World Men's Handball Championship in France, securing three vacancies for the World Championship.

The 2017 Pan American Women's Handball Championship was the 14th edition of the Pan American Women's Handball Championship, held in at the Sociedad Alemana de Gimnasia de Villa Ballester, in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina from 18 to 25 June 2017. It acted as American qualifying tournament for the 2017 World Women's Handball Championship. The event was originally set to be held in Toronto, Canada but the Canadian Handball Federation withdrew, citing lack of funds.

The Pan American Youth Beach Handball Championship was the official competition for men's and women's youth national beach handball teams of America. In addition to crowning the Pan American champions, the tournament also served as a qualifying tournament for the IHF Youth Beach Handball World Championship. Only two were held as in 2018, the PATHF disbanded and the tournaments were replaced with the North America & the Caribbean and South & Central American championships.

The 2020 European Women's Handball Championship was held from 3 to 20 December 2020. The games were played in Herning and Kolding, Denmark.

Handball at the 2020 Summer Olympics – Womens tournament

The women's handball tournament at the 2020 Summer Olympics was the 12th edition of the handball event for women at the Summer Olympic Games. It was held from 25 July to 8 August 2021. All games were played at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan.

The qualification for the 2020 Women's Olympic Handball Tournament assigned quota places to twelve teams: the hosts, the World champion, four continental champions and six teams from the World Olympic qualification tournaments respectively. The 2020 Olympics were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Handball competition of the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla was held from 20 July to 1 August at the Coliseo Colegio Sagrado Corazón de Jesús. The top three teams in both genders qualified to the 2019 Pan American Games.

The 2018 IHF South and Central American Emerging Nations Championship was the 1st edition of this Handball event organized by the International Handball Federation. It was held in Palmira, Colombia at the Pabellon Blanco, from 22 to 28 October.

The 2018 South and Central American Women's Handball Championship was the first edition of the South and Central American Women's Handball Championship, which took place in Maceió, Brazil from 29 November to 4 December 2018. It acted as the South and Central American qualifying tournament for the 2019 World Women's Handball Championship.

The División de Honor Femenina 2018–19, or Liga Guerreras Iberdrola 2018-19 after sponsorship of Iberdrola, is the 62nd season of women's handball top flight in Spain since its establishment. The season began on 7 September. A total of 14 teams take part the league, 12 of which had already contested in the 2017–18 season, and two of which were promoted from the División de Plata 2017–18.

The 2019 South and Central American Men's Junior Handball Championship was the first edition of the tournament, took place in Palmira, Colombia at the Pabellon Blanco, from 3 to 7 April 2019. It acted as the South and Central American qualifying tournament for the 2019 Men's Junior World Handball Championship.

The 2019 South and Central American Men's Youth Handball Championship was the first edition of the tournament, took place in Taubaté, Brazil at the Ginásio EMECAL, from 8 to 12 May 2019. It acted as the South and Central American qualifying tournament for the 2019 Men's Youth World Handball Championship.

The handball men's tournament at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru was held between 31 July and 5 August 2019. Eight nations participated.
